Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse
  • Mentorship or equivalent
  • A&E course or similar
  • BSc or MSc level nursing training

Desirable criteria

  • ALS
  • Leadership qualification

Knowledge / Awareness

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable clinical expertise relevant to ED
  • Interest in and commitment to professional development of self and others
  • Experience of leading change in clinical environment
  • Understanding of HR processes and staff management issues
  • Awareness of current health issues and recent ED initiatives

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding of nursing issues in relation to finance

Skills / Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Able to organise and manage day to day departmental activities and the team within this
  • Able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels
  • Adapts communication style as appropriate
  • Able to lead a team to achieve results
  • Understanding of change management issues
  • Understanding of clinical risk management issues
  • Able to utilise research in clinical practice
  • Able to respond to unexpected issues and provide a first line response
  • Computer literate (Cerner, MS Office)
  • ED take charge experience
