Job overview

Following the retirement of our hugely successful unit manager I am inviting applications from inspiring, progressive and effective nurses who would like to take on the responsibility of managing a busy service at our St Mary's site, where currently we are running four rooms at capacity, additionally there are weekend lists also running.

My expectation is that you will have a thorough understanding of how to manage a diverse workforce, caring for their wellbeing, challenges and difficulties so that they can continue to give the highest quality care to our patients.

This role demands an innovative professional with exceptional organisational skills and caring approach to meet the dynamics of the service. As the unit manager you will be critical in fostering a culture of excellence and improvement, collaborating with the wider services within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will have managerial responsibilities for the Endoscopy Unit, including rostering, time management, audits, staffing
  • Responsible for the effective management of allocated resources/delegated budget.
  • Alongside the Practice Development Nurse and Clinical Nurse Educator lead the service to create a culture of continual professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with the Endoscopy Service Manager, Business Manager, Matron, Clinicans and wider MDT to provide a seamless service.
  • Act as a clinical expert within the service, continually updating yourself to be current with the latest research and practice.
  • Participate in audits both local and national (JAG).

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Graduate (degree/diploma) with specialist expertise across a range of procedures in endoscopy.

Desirable criteria

  • Management qualification or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience as a junior sister/charge nurse at relevant level within the endoscopy setting
  • Experience of leading and developing a team
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit.
  • Knowledge of budget management

Desirable criteria

  • Experience at Band 7 (or non NHS equivalent) as a team leader

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Organisation, administrative and management skills. An understanding of service hierarchy.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of managing difficult conversations.
