Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Role Summary
• The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/ Manager has responsibility for the management of the ward area including assessment of care needs the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.
• The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will facilitate innovative and evidence based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
• The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.
• The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Matron will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Midwife will report directly to the Matron.

Education
Essential criteria
- Diploma in Nursing/ evidence of Degree level studies
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Master level study
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in a leadership role/ Deputy ward sister/charge nurse experience within last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Formal Teaching to groups of staff
