Job title: Senior Engineer – Ship structures

Salary: Up to £ 51,000 (depending on skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
- Produce structural design solutions, supported by calculations, for ship scantlings
- Undertake global longitudinal strength assessments
- Prepare design sketches of structural solutions as required in AutoCAD
- Peer reviewing of other team members calculations where required
- Checking calculations.
- Liaising with regulatory bodies, ie LR
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Good understanding of ship structures, in particular calculations of primary ship structure
- Knowledge and competence in ship structural design including the derivation of scantlings and major equipment seatings from first principles
- Sound capability in general structural theory and analysis and its application to ship structures
- Experience developing ship structure scantlings
Desirable:
- Ability to perform analysis using recognised FEA tools, preferably Hypermesh and Abaqus
- An understanding of Foran
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.
Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Structural Design Team:
This role is within the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Project, specifically within the RCD Structural Design Team. This forms part of the broader Global Combat Ship (GCS) Structures team which also includes Type 26 (UK) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCF).
The team is involved all aspects of Structural design and analysis of the RCD including LR NSR Rule based design, Global & Local FEA, and major equipment seat design (Cat A Seats).
There will be the opportunity and requirement to work closely with other disciplines such as Combat Systems, Aviation & Seamanship to achieve a coherent design solution. The programme is fast paced and dynamic requiring an agile and diligent approach.
