Overview
We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Senior Safety Engineer. The Safety Engineer will work within the System team performing safety activities in support of the Systems in development, manufacture and in-service.
Please note that this role is for Contract or Permanent.
Responsibilities
The Safety Engineer will typically produce the following deliverables and outputs;
- Safety Case reports and associated documentation.
- Hazard Logs and associated reports.
- Assessment of supplier safety compliance, in accordance with legislative and contractual safety requirements.
- Safety analysis activity reports such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Safety input to life-cycle management core engineering processes, design reviews (e.g. PDR and CDR)
- Provide safety SME input to Systems projects.
- Production of reports to support, site, facility or equipment safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent education with relevant experience.
- Applications are also welcomed from individuals with significant demonstrable experience who don't hold formal qualifications.
- CEng or demonstration that working towards chartership.
- Member of a relevant institution, or relevant experienced and capable to register with Engineering Council
Essential skills
The Safety Engineer will be required to have the following skills and experience;
- Experience supporting Safety Case work within either the Civil or Defence
- The development of Safety Case reports, assessing Safety Case validity and safety assurance including ALARP assessments and providing Safety Argument for Design Authority Approval
- Ability to author Safety Case documentation, collate supporting evidence.
- Production of Safety Case reports.
- Participate and lead HAZID and HAZOP sessions.
- Comprehensive experience of hazard and risk management processes.
- Performing functional safety analysis using recognised methods.
- Risk Management, including Hazard Logs, Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis.
- Performing Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
- System Safety Analysis; e.g. Fault Tree Analysis, Bow Tie Analysis.
- An understanding of system development lifecycle against the standard 'V-model' from concept to disposal
- Assessing supplier safety compliance, in accordance with legislative and contractual safety requirements.
- A clear understanding of either Licensed site conditions or Authorised conditions
- Experience working with Nuclear regulation (either, DNSR or ONR)
- Development of Probabilistic and Deterministic Safety Arguments
Desired skills
- Experience working in high hazard industries
- MoD standards Def Stan 00-56, 00-51 and Def Stan 00-55.
- Software Safety assurance.
- Experience with Systems Engineering tools such as Enterprise Architect and DOORS is desirable.
- Compilation of Safety Arguments using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) is desirable.
- Experience with auditing safety work IAW ISO 9001
- Experience with COMAH & DSEAR
- An understanding of materials regulations which may include REACH, RoHS & POPs
