An exciting opportunity for a Senior Road Safety Education Officer to join the Traffic & Safety Team in the Environment and Transport Department. We are looking for someone to lead on developing and shaping our road safety education programme of initiatives to schools and the wider community by supporting the delivery of integrated strategies for education, training and promotion that support behaviour change and the safe and sustainable use of the transport network.

About the Role

You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with diverse priorities. In return you will get a chance to manage and support exciting and innovative road safety education projects that will shape the plan for how road safety education is delivered to schools and the wider community in Leicestershire.

You will have the vision to identify and develop road safety education initiatives and the skills to manage and implement this to influence and inspire individuals to adopt safer road user behaviour and to support active travel.

You will be an excellent collaborator and able to establish and maintain partnership working relationships with colleagues and external partners, plus ensure good working relationships with our service users in order to achieve common outputs and outcomes to raise awareness of road safety education and active travel.

You will have experience of line managing staff, their work programmes, professional development and associated work programme budget. This role will involve providing technical support and guidance to junior staff that line manage the School Crossing Patrol's and deliver the road safety initiatives.

You will support on the preparation of external funding bids and reports for Senior Management and Lead Member; you will provide advice on road safety education and respond to queries from all interested parties.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or proven work experience in a public focused business; achieved First4Sport Level 2 Instructing Cycle Training or agreement to undertake this training; evidence of continued learning and development.
  • A customer focused approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of our service; have sound experience in collaborative working and of developing and influencing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to build positive relationships based on trust to achieve common outputs and outcomes for service users.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills; efficient at service planning and delivery on Projects and Programmes with a varied workload working to tight timescales and to agreed targets; experience of line managing staff and supporting their professional development and supervision of their work, including managing and engaging a remote workforce and volunteers; flexible approach, able to use own initiative and work well as part of an effective team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving, analytical, numerical, creative thinking skills with attention to detail; IT skills, including a knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Programs and ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software to produce materials to present at meetings and presentations.
  • Good experience and knowledge of creating, delivering and promoting road safety education initiatives including the Bikeability Cycle Training Programme and of the Internal and External Quality Assurance requirements.
