This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly talented Lloyd's Register Advisory Risk Team as a Senior Risk Specialist to work with clients across the maritime supply chain to manage their risks in a rapidly evolving industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high quality services, following best practices, in risk identification, assessment and management, to support our clients. With a growing focus on sustainable alternative marine fuels and novel energy saving technologies and systems, the successful candidate will ideally have a track record of delivering risk-based projects in these areas.

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join LR's highly trusted Risk Team to support our clients with the some of the biggest challenges facing our industry such as decarbonisation. You will be based in Southampton, UK and work with LR's risk team spread out across the world in UK, Singapore, Korea, Canada and India. There will be a requirement to undertake travel within the home country and occasionally overseas for client-related work. The role includes direct client interaction to discuss project schedule / delivery, technical issues, and solutions.

The successful candidate for this role will have a passion for risk management, strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills and an inquisitive mind with a willingness to learn about new technologies. Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and support others deliver projects within the LR Advisory Risk Team ensuring that they are managed in accordance with quality system requirements, cost structures and budgetary / contractual requirements
  • Facilitating / Chairing qualitative risk studies (e.g. HAZIDs, HAZOPs, FMEAs) or supporting others as a scribe
  • Leading or supporting Risk Analyses (e.g. QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, Consequence modelling) and applying the tools and techniques as appropriate to carry out safety case development, ALARP demonstration, and any other technical safety work required to support clients in meeting their legislative and regulatory obligations
  • Leading or supporting Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Studies
  • Completing technical reviews of risk assessments completed by other team members
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards
  • Establish, develop and maintain long-term client relationships, using feedback to continually develop our services, processes / procedures and deliverables
  • Develop technical proposals for clients, including estimated costs and timescales for delivery
  • Expand on or develop business opportunities to offer clients and where necessary present / promote these internally and externally
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness
  • Support the development of others within the organisation through coaching and effective knowledge transfer

What we are looking for

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution
  • To be working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
  • An in-depth working experience and technical knowledge in risk management, qualitative and quantitative risk techniques, including experience of facilitating / chairing workshops
  • To be customer focussed, proactive and highly motivated to support clients, by meeting their deadlines and regularly updating them on progress
  • To be enthusiastic and continually seeking development opportunities for yourself and the wider Risk Team
  • Good communication / influencing skills as well as strong team-working and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work, with the ability to produce comprehensive and detailed technical written reports
  • Experience in Marine, Oil and Gas and/or Energy Sectors (desirable)
  • Knowledge of QRA Software (e.g. PHAST / SAFETI) (desirable)
  • Knowledge of RAM Software (e.g. MAROS) (desirable)
  • Project management experience (desirable)
  • Functional Safety Qualification (desirable)
