Senior Occupational Health & Safety Advisor

This position is located in our Guildford office. This is a hybrid role with expectation of you attending the office twice per week.

Salary Information

Circa 58k per annum.

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

About You

As a Senior Occupational Health & Safety Advisor, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with key UK legislation, and any industry-specific regulations that apply to office and remote work in the finance and insurance industries.
  • Ensuring effective health and safety management system is maintained including but not exclusively the undertaking of and reviewing of risk assessments and implementation of effective controls.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and wellness across the organization, including ergonomics and stress management programs for office and remote workers.
  • Support the development of OHS policy, standards and procedures across the company,
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, recommending corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure all employees have the requisite H&S knowledge and training to perform their roles effectively, including where necessary the development and delivery of H&S training.
  • Act as an advisor for senior management, department heads, and other key stakeholders on all Health and Safety matters.
  • Support with the creation of clear and comprehensive reports on the organization's health and safety performance, including metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Undertake audits, inspections and assurance activities.
  • Deputise for the Head of Occupational Health & Safety.

Essential Skills

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and best practices (with experience gained in a senior H&S role in a commercial environment) with ability to apply to remote and hybrid working models.
  • Ability to investigate accident, incident and near miss in accordance with company and regulatory requirements and implement Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior management and employees at all levels.
  • Understanding of intersection between health and wellbeing, inclusion, and health and safety
  • Understanding of fundamental influences that effect organisational culture.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities across multiple sites and experience of consulting with employees in a unionised organisation.

Desirable Skills

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or equivalent.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or equivalent professional recognition or working towards.
  • Continuous CPD record, for example IOSH Blueprint.
