About the Role:

The Senior Risk Analyst will report to the Head of Operational Risk: UK and Europe. As a key member of this team they will own business partnering relationships with senior stakeholders, be responsible for the Operational Risk framework and lead reporting to legal entity committees. In addition, they will work closely with colleagues across Global Risk Solutions (GRS) and Liberty Mutual to develop consistent Risk processes and frameworks across the wider group.

About the Department & Team:

The UK and Europe Operational Risk team is part of the broader GRS Risk Management team and is a key contributor to the second line of defence. The role and responsibilities of the team are:

  • Develop and implement an Operational Risk strategy to support achievement of GRS's corporate objectives, strategy and business plan.
  • Develop and embed an effective Operational Risk framework which allows the identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring and reporting of risk and measures the management of those exposures to a level consistent with the business's risk appetite.
  • Support a consistent Operational Risk framework and reporting across all levels of the Group.
  • Assist the Board and management in their responsibility to understand and monitor the risks faced by the business, and thereby help our UK and European legal entities meet the expectations of their regulators.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk strategy and appetite

  • Support in defining and implementing a comprehensive Operational Risk Strategy for UK and Europe . Contribute to deliver the annual Operational r isk plan and the activities of the Risk Management function, including thematic reviews on key risk issues.
  • Maintain a clear Operational risk appetite framework for UK and Europe . Ensure risk appetites are considered and embedded in decision making.
  • Regularly report to senior management on the Operational risk profile against appetite, advising on risk mitigation strategies where required.
  • Champion an effective risk culture across the Company.

Risk framework, processes and systems

  • Maintain the Operational risk identification and assessment process, ensuring the RM function and management have a clear and continuous view of the risk exposure of the organisation.
  • Work closely with business functions to monitor risk exposures and advise on risk mitigation strategies where required. This will include partnering with the business to understand the impact of new projects and initiatives.
  • Support key RM activities e.g. internal controls, operational incidents, stress and scenario testing and reverse stress testing.
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of the governance, risk and Compliance (GRC) tool across UK, Europe and GRS
  • Work with the wider GRS and LM teams to develop a consistent Operational Risk framework and reporting across all levels of the Group.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive management reporting, including use of risk management systems and data visualisation tools.

Reporting and governance

  • Assist in the production/review of all regular and ad hoc Operational risk reporting from the RM function, including to the Risk Management Committee, Board, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate and ensure effective risk governance, including the operation of various risk committees as required.
  • Regularly present key findings of the Risk Management framework to senior management, up to and including the Board.
  • Remain updated on regulatory developments to provide timely input.

Conduct Risk

  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules ,Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing

Skills and Experience:

Technical / Business Acumen

  • Experience of Operational risk, internal controls and incident reporting
  • Experience of key regulatory areas e.g. Operational Resilience, DORA and Third Parties is desirable
  • General Insurance experience is desirable
  • Logical mind-set, eye for detail, able to translate detail into big picture.
  • Microsoft office skills for Excel and Word.
  • Strong analytical skills and forms sound conclusions / judgements.

  • Proactive, completer, result focussed and efficient.
  • Strong work ethic. Takes initiative for routine tasks.
  • Ability to lead work, including discrete projects on behalf of RM function.
  • Shows initiative in driving forward projects.

  • Stakeholder management and relationship skills to build relationships with a range of senior stakeholders at different levels of the business.
  • Articulate, factual and structured report writing.

Time management & Teamwork

  • Used to working to deadlines and under a certain amount of pressure.
  • Ability to maintain effective personal workload plans that are achievable, prioritised appropriately and meet business objectives
  • Strong team worker, making effective contributions to team meetings and team initiatives and also be able to take ownership of tasks and projects whilst often working remotely and with limited supervision.
