Senior Revenues & Benefits Officer

The Council Revenues and Benefits Service is responsible for Billing, Collection and Recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayment & Sundry Debt.

We are looking for enthusiastic and positive individuals to work as part of our teams responsible for administration and processing within the Revenues Service.

We welcome collaborative thinkers, excellent communicators and people who are enthusiastic to develop skills across a broad section of the service. You should be able to demonstrate a clear customer focus with well-developed customer service skills, balanced with a commitment to effective service delivery.

We are looking to appoint to permanently to the following roles:

  • 1 x 37 hour post on Council Tax Billing Team- relevant experience of Billing work is required such as discounts, payments, moves.
  • 1 x 37 hour post on Council Tax Recovery Team - relevant experience working within a recovery/collection environment.

Both roles will be 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the position to be based at Howden House. We currently operate a hybrid working pattern.

For these roles you will need a range of skills and experience, and including:

  • Experience and knowledge of general Council Tax Procedures and legislation.
  • Experience and knowledge of accurate Billing and Recovery across different Council Tax functions and various income streams.
  • Experience of the billing and recovery of a range of local authority debts and a broad knowledge of maximising revenue throughout the recovery cycle.
  • Well-developed I.T. skills. There is a requirement to be familiar with Revenues and Benefits processing systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications particularly Excel and MS Word.
  • Experience and knowledge of a customer focused approach to service delivery, balanced with the needs of the service users.
  • Experience of dealing with internal & external customers via all available communication channels.

All successful candidates will be required to complete a Basic DBS check.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement, a flexible working scheme and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
