Young people's mental health is one of the trusts priority areas for research in the Trusts Research Strategy. In order to support our research ambitions, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Fellow to join our Young People's Mental Health Research Centre, which is comprised of enthusiastic and engaged clinicians and researchers.
The Senior Research Fellow will support our aspirations to become an international pioneer of research, which will ultimately support the delivery of world class and sustainable specialist health and social care services for people with mental health challenges. The Senior Research Fellow will be working on an NIHR funded project focusing on Trauma-informed Care in Children's Homes. The research will utilise a realist methodology, therefore experience in this would be greatly beneficial.
Our Young People's Mental Health Research Centre aims to achieve this by undertaking high quality research into interventions, treatments and services for young people with mental health challenges, and to disseminate the findings. Main duties of the job
This post is available at Senior Research Fellow level working within the Young People's Mental Health Research Centre in collaboration with Pennine Cares Research and Innovation department. The Senior Research Fellow will be working on the Trauma-informed Care in Children's Homes research study.
Main Duties include (see job description for full details):
- Utilising skills, experience, knowledge and working in partnership to undertake high quality research for children and young people with mental health challenges.
- Utilising evidence-based research to make service improvements.
- Utilising realist methodology to collect and analyse data.
- Disseminating the findings from research.
- Aiming to ensure that young people with mental health challenges experience the best outcomes and are able to achieve meaningful and fulfilling lives.
As an NHS Research Hub, we believe that our work should be clinically focussed using practice-informed research and research-informed practice. The postholder will work collaboratively with a team of clinicians, researchers, and managers from across Pennine Care, along with looked after children's homes, with the ultimate aim of making a real impact on the way services are delivered.

The main duties and responsibilities consists of:
• Working closely with research members to contribute to the delivery of the improvement science research programme.
• Being responsible for study design, recruitment and data collection and analysis.
• Obtaining necessary ethical and governance approvals at project outset.
• Conduct literature searching.
• Provide regular progress reports.
• Writing blogs to help promote the theme and our findings, writing publications (as the lead or a co-author) and other dissemination activities that will help to optimise the impact of our work.
• Be involved in grant applications and to supervise more junior staff members.
• Applying for NHS research ethics committee approval.
• Qualitative data collection and analysis.
• Literature searching.
• Recruitment of participants.
• Management of data.
• To engage with colleagues within the Young People's Mental Health Research Centre and the Trust Research Innovation team offering advice and guidance as required.
• To work effectively with patients, the public and healthcare staff to ensure our research meets the needs of these groups.
• To be involved with research publications and conference abstracts.
• To ensure that research governance procedures and GDPR legislation is adhered to.
• To enhance the impact of our work through engagement with professional conferences, writing for different audiences, blogs, short course development, etc.
• To undertake personal development in keeping with the aspiration to be a national leader in health research.
• To update the theme manager on project progress and outcomes to enable monitoring for and reporting to the NIHR.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First degree in social science or health related subject.
- Masters level qualification or equivalent substantial research experience
Desirable criteria
- PhD/professional doctorate qualification
- Willingness to undertake GCP
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience of organising and conducting young people's mental health research.
- Experience of obtaining ethical and research approvals.
- Project management experience; keeping to timelines, managing risks
- Experience in using quantitative or qualitative and/or mixed research methods within projects.
- Experience of collaborative research working.
- Patient and public involvement in research.
- Lead authoring peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience with realist methodologies
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with cared for children in practice or a research environment
- Experience of managing and / or mentoring more junior staff,
- Developing research proposals and funding applications as a co-applicant or principle investigator.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Implementation science and/or health services research theory and methods
- Understanding of information governance
- Understanding of national research policy and current issues in the NHS.
- Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects service users, families carers and staff
- Understanding of what NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, services users and colleagues.
