We are recruiting for a Senior Research Executive. This vacancy is within the Probability Surveys Unit which designs and manages some of the largest and most technically complex studies in Public Affairs, including National and Official Statistics, and some major longitudinal studies. We seek to combine methodological expertise with excellent project management.

What will I be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity for a developing researcher to learn more about methods and project management, in order to take on an increasing role in managing high profile studies which influence and inform decision-making about health services. You will learn this in a friendly environment where you have multiple people to learn from to develop your skills.
We would prefer a mixed-methods researcher, but are open to the right person so qualitative or quantitative researchers should also apply. The main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting project managers on quantitative and qualitative research projects from inception through to delivery
  • Keeping clients updated on progress - we trust and encourage people at all levels to work and liaise directly with our clients
  • Liaising with suppliers and internal operations colleagues to ensure the objectives of the research are met and on budget
  • Contributing to questionnaires and discussion guides that meet clients' and stakeholders' objectives
  • Drafting fieldwork materials such as invitation letters, interviewer instructions and recruitment materials
  • Managing and monitoring fieldwork
  • Moderating depth interviews and discussion groups
  • Drafting data specifications and checking data files
  • Writing reports and presentations that deliver insights to meet the client's objectives
  • Quality checking key deliverables, ensuring they are delivered accurately and to the highest quality
  • Monitoring a project's financial progress, identifying problems and suggesting solutions

What do I need to bring with me....

The role would suit a Researcher with Interest in and understanding of the methodological issues that impact the quality of surveys.

Ideally you will have the following skills:

  • Good quantitative social research skills and project management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organised, and solutions-focused
  • Time management skills, working across multiple projects, prioritising tasks efficiently
  • Be numerate, logical and have an ability to understand complex data
  • Proficiency in Excel, ability to work with complex spreadsheets
  • Prior knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, SPSS syntax
  • Experience in writing questionnaires and fieldwork materials
  • Good communication, client handling and supplier negotiation skills
  • Strong writing skills and experience of preparing written reports and presentations, with a high level of accurate use of English, including the ability to write in a variety of styles
  • Proven ability to work well in teams

The Public Affairs Service Line is the world leader in Social and Opinion Research. We work with clients on political and public opinion polling, citizen and stakeholder management, social policy improvement, sustainable development strategy and identifying societal trends and perceptions across several sectors. We assess how government and public affairs policies as well as societal trends and views impact our client's brand/products/markets.
