UHL is currently re-configuring sites and services leading to Interventional Radiology setting up in new accommodation.

Imaging investigations and minimally invasive treatments are central to modern healthcare services and as a specialty are evolving and rapidly expanding. The changing face of Interventional Radiology has enabled the treatment and cure of many diseases that once required the patient to undergo extensive surgical operations.

The IR HCA is an integral part of the MDT in providing care to patients who attend for diagnostic or therapeutic treatments. The unique and varied nature of the specialty means that there is always something new and interesting to learn. Due to the diversity of patients who attend for treatment, Radiology has the ability to care for a wide range of patients of all ages, from Emergency, Medical, Surgical and Oncology specialties.

Main duties of the job

UHL Interventional Radiology provides care to day case and inpatients utilising a diverse range of minimally invasive image guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system within the body.

  • Scrubbing and assisting in X-ray / Ultrasound procedures - must be physically able to wear lead aprons
  • Care of day case patients before, during and after procedures involving observations, wound checks and documentation
  • Cannulation and venepuncture

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be part of a passionate and dedicated service that provides a high quality patient driven service offering one to one nurse led individualised care. You will have the opportunity to follow through the whole patient journey in a day case environment from pre, peri, recovery to discharge providing your patient comfort, reassurance and continuity of care during all aspects of their procedure.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
