Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer to join our CT and Interventional Radiology Team at Charing Cross Hospital.

Your rotation will be a 50/50 split between CT and IR, covering both specialties 24/7 (within your contracted hours). Our busy department houses 2 bi-plane interventional rooms (Philips Allura and Azurion) and 2 CT scanners (Siemens 28 slice Definition AS and 128 slice Somatom X.Cite).

You will form part of a dedicated CT/IR team providing excellent patient care and radiographic expertise in neurological and general interventional procedures.

This includes cerebral thrombectomy (24 hour service), neuro embolisations and TACE and and R/MFA. This specialised role will offer the opportunity to build and extend on your clinical expertise and also develop your management, training and leadership skills.

You will work closely with radiologists, nurses and other multi-disciplinary teams within the Trust. We recognise that education and training is fundamental and support role extension (advanced IR practice) and further learning.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry out a full range of CT and IR procedures (both neuro and general) to the agreed standards of the department
  • Complete high quality examinations consistent with ALARA/ MHRA principles.
  • To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient focused at all times.
  • To plan, prioritise and organise own workload.
  • To vet request forms for validity and appropriateness.
  • To evaluate the quality of imaging acquired and determine whether repeat or additional acquisitions are required.
  • To undertake intravenous cannulation and intramuscular administration of medicines in line with departmental policy

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • College of Radiographers or equivalent accredited IV cannulation course
  • Working towards PgC/PgD or MSc in relevant clinical modality or Management & Leadership Level 5 or above

Desirable criteria

  • Student Clinical Assessors Course
  • Postgraduate study in a relevant area

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Up to date knowledge of relevant modality imaging techniques
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues in relation to patient care
  • Experience of working unsupervised
  • Experience of on-call and out-of-hours roster

Skills Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff, and new members of staff
  • Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively
  • A solid understanding of radiation legislation and its application in the workplace as it relates to Radiography practice
  • Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at the local level commensurate with Trust policies
