As part of our Regional Buildings division, as s Senior Quantity Surveyor you will have a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Seeking to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Typically, you will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB. Experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
Based in Birmingham, you'll play a pivotal part in the ground-breaking HS2 project, Britain's futuristic high-speed railway. Picture yourself at the forefront, leading the charge in delivering 5 MEP headhouses for the iconic Long Itchington Wood (Leamington Spa) & Bromford Tunnels (Northeast of Birmingham city centre), shaping the future of transportation. You'll be immersed in the buzz of activity, orchestrating seamless integration between MEP, construction, and Rail interfaces.
What you'll be doing
Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
- Orders information and systematically checks data
Cost Engineering
- Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
Estimating
- Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
Planning
- Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location,
- Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
Project Management
- Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
- Analyses the commercial progress and report to senior project staff
Procurement
- Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
- Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Commercial Management
- Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
- Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
- Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation
Development, Recruitment and Retention
- Maintains own Personal Development Plan
- Actively supports the development of others
- Produces plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations
- Supports recruitment of lower grades
Who we're looking for
To progress your leadership career with us as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll need to:
- Be a member of RICS, ICES or CIOB
- Have a strong focus on safety and quality
- Share our positive outlook and passion for what we do
- Understand how best to mentor and develop our Quantity Surveyors and other commercial teams
- Be a natural collaborator who can work as a team with people in other disciplines
- Ideally have a degree (in any field) or equivalent experience.
