Job Description
The role of a Senior Quantity Surveyor is to manage all assigned commercial activities within the project environment. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be involved with all aspects of the project lifecycle, seeking to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality in accordance with contract and Customer's and/or Contract Leader expectations.
This role may work independently, managing a small commercial team or under the direction of and
report to a more senior commercial designation.
Responsibilities
The role is to support the team in the management of the works, including management of the main and subcontract accounts, providing commercial and contractual advice, seeking opportunities to deliver increased margin and provide coaching and support for the team members.
Area 14 Maintenance & Response Contract is a Joint Venture between Costain and Jacobs (CHC) to provide a maintenance and response service for National Highways on the Strategic Road Network in Area 14 which is in the North-East of England. As part of this service CHC undertakes cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response and minor capital interventions (scheme works).
Key Responsibilities:
- Subcontract Management including procurement, auditing, payments, change management, earned value reporting, forecasting, performance monitoring, monthly meetings, final accounts etc.
- Ensure timescales for contract administration, commitments, actions and deliverables are met
- Management of the EW/Change control process & identification and pricing of contract change
- Producing budget estimates for the client
- Collation/Submission of required evidence for main contract application for payment
- Assist with production of internal reporting
- Engage and assist team members in seeking personal development opportunities
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
- Highways QS experience
- Advanced Excel use
- Team player
- Driven and thorough
- Analytical with good problem solving skills
- Good presentation skills and attention to detail
- NEC Contract experience
- Inquisitive
Desirable:
- Desirable
- Maintenance & Response experience
- Use of CEMAR
- Use of Confirm (Brightly)
- Management of 1500 Series Subcontractors and/or Traffic Management subcontractors

Qualifications
Essential:
- Holds an RICS / CICES accredited degree
Desirable:
- Senior Quantity Surveyors will hold or be nearing completion of Full Membership with RICS / CIEC
