Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Ilford, E London
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Benefits
Reports To: Commercial Manager / Project Director
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in rail and civil engineering to join our commercial team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the commercial aspects of key infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the commercial and contractual management of rail and civil engineering projects.
- Prepare, submit, and manage valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Provide accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting on a monthly basis.
- Support procurement of subcontractors, including drafting of subcontract agreements.
- Manage subcontractor accounts and payment applications.
- Ensure compliance with NEC / NR / JCT contracts (as applicable).
- Liaise with project managers and engineers to ensure commercial risks are identified and mitigated.
- Lead on dispute resolution, claims, and contractual correspondence.
- Attend and represent the company at client and site meetings.
- Mentor and guide junior commercial staff as required.
Requirements Essential:
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within rail and civil engineering sectors.
- Strong knowledge of NEC and/or NR contract forms.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant QS software (e.g., CEMAR, Causeway, COINS, etc.).
Desirable:
- Chartered status (MRICS or working towards).
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) qualification.
- Experience with Network Rail frameworks or similar.
