Senior Quantity Surveyor

An exciting and newly created opportunity has become available for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our YTL Construction (Infrastructure) business.

Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial, you will be responsible for the commercial and financial management of a portfolio of design and build schemes of up to £50M of annual turnover, from inception to scheme closedown.
What you'll do

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will ensure that a profiled forecast for the scope of work is produced in conjunction with the programme team.

You will provide commercial support to the commercial and programme management teams to achieve best value for the company, while maintaining commercial standards, achieving corporate and YTL Construction (Infrastructure) reporting timetables and ensuring compliance with corporate governance.

You will liaise with the relevant internal departments as well as externally, which will include workstream partners' commercial staff, approved suppliers, specialist equipment and service providers, client organisations, professional organisations (such as RICS), and statistical and historical data providers.

You will also manage the workload and have functional line management responsibilities for Apprentices, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors.
What you'll need

You will ideally be degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or have extensive equivalent working experience. Contract management experience, especially in the NEC3/4 suite of documents (particularly options A and C) will be essential.

In addition, you will have experience in the financial management of design and build contracts with values in excess of £10m, from outline design through to the agreement of final account. You will have worked in a civil engineering or utilities background, of which networks and treatment experience in the water sector are preferred.

  • estimating and negotiating target costs
  • report writing, including board reports
  • presenting to senior management
  • communicating effectively with staff at all levels from Apprentice to Director
  • the production and presentation of monthly CVRs/profit and loss accounts
  • managing a programme of work.

Who we are

YTL Construction UK is a new company that will be part of the international YTL Group. The Group, which is based in Malaysia, has a very large building and construction arm within Asia, including housing, roads, rail, commercial buildings, hotels, performing arts venues and cement manufacture.

YTL has been active in the UK for over 20 years with the ownership of Wessex Water, waste to energy, retail and commercial projects and a number of hotels.

YTL Construction will be responsible for the construction of a new entertainment complex at the iconic Brabazon hangars, north of Bristol, including exhibition and conferencing space.
