Responsible for leading and managing the Quality Assurance Team to conduct operational, quality improvement, and special audits across the Chartwells business. The role ensures that all risks and controls impacting the integrity of reported information and the achievement of business objectives are identified and managed effectively. This senior role involves strategic oversight, team leadership, and maintaining high standards of quality improvement and excellence in the education sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality Assurance Team to complete School Food Reviews across the Chartwells Secondary School estate.
  • Oversee the identification and evaluation of risks, processes, controls, IT systems, business performance metrics, operational challenges, and business initiatives for each assignment.
  • Ensure that proper controls and processes are in place and adhered to by the team.
  • Review and approve working papers and evidence to support findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare weekly reports to line manager and Chartwells Exec to highlight progress made, recognition and areas of concern.
  • Communicate complex findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to senior management, both verbally and in writing.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement solutions and action plans to address audit recommendations.
  • Set and monitor targets for the team, ensuring timely completion of assignments.
  • Foster strong, positive relationships with management and employees, promoting the Internal Review function as a consultative and supportive service.
  • Ensure the Quality Assurance Team delivers a value-adding service that assists the business in achieving its objectives while maintaining independence.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.

Person Specification

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with high professional standards and integrity.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a strong risk awareness and thorough understanding of processes and controls.
  • Commercially aware and strategically focused.
  • In-depth knowledge of internal controls, quality improvement, and auditing standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle difficult conversations effectively.
  • Quick to understand and action quality improvement issues and business requirements.
  • Ability to identify and address problems/situations that require attention promptly.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of functioning effectively in teams, one-on-one situations, and audit presentations.
  • Effective writing, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven track record as an effective team player and leader.
  • Knowledge of school food legislation
  • School food operations experience
  • Experience using online auditing system
