The role: Senior QA Engineer

Rowden are looking for an experienced QA Engineer who will help continue to push best practices and raise product and process quality by integrating into our project and build teams.

You will have a keen eye for detail and a pragmatic approach to your work to ensure our software products are robust and meet the standards that we and our customers expect.

Working on projects ranging from bespoke mobile applications to geospatial tools, you'll play a critical role in ensuring we deliver on our promise of building better integrated digital technologies, faster and more cost effectively than ever before.

Whilst the testing execution focus of this role is focused mainly on manual testing techniques, we're keen to hear from applicants who have had exposure to automation approaches using CI/CD pipelines.

Key areas of responsibility

As Rowden's Senior QA Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating test and quality deliverables and processes across multiple teams and projects
  • Conducting formal test planning, execution, and reporting using both manual and automated techniques where necessary
  • Conducting triage sessions, working prioritising issues and managing defects through their lifecycle
  • Participating in and inputting into sprint planning, estimation, refinement, and amigo sessions
  • Working through the root cause of issues, debugging defects identified during test, development, and build processes
  • Provide support with customer walkthroughs, demos, training sessions and support project teams with production of product support user guides
  • Work closely with the field engineering team to coordinate equipment configuration for customer exercises, training, and testing days outside of the Rowden office
  • Supporting clients and field engineers through acceptance, release, and deployment stages of projects

Key skills, experience and behaviours

We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology and who actively invests in their technical skills and abilities. You'll gain loads of experience in this role but before you do, you should have:

  • Experience in a similar industry or role is required OR
  • 4+ years of testing experience in complex integration projects
  • Demonstratable experience in formally documenting and executing test plans, detailed test cases.
  • Experience in production of execution records, reporting, and release documentation
  • Experience guiding teams through various testing phases of product development, utilising agile tools and methodologies
  • Experience working within full solution delivery teams and deliver products according to user and system requirements
  • Comfortable and confidence with being client facing, leading product demos, and hosting discussions around QA, acceptance testing and releases
  • Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and repo management using Github
  • In depth knowledge of testing and project management tools such as Jira and Testrail
  • Good working knowledge of accessibility requirements and familiarity with WCAG
  • Experience in hardware and software integration
  • Experience in automation test techniques using multiple tech stacks

You will be rigorous in your approach while maintaining a humble and pragmatic outlook. You'll be a collaborative member of the team, assisting with testing at every stage of the software development lifecycle rather than working in isolation.

You should be well versed in various types and areas of testing and know when and where to focus your efforts to ensure a robust overall outcome. You will find solutions to problems and will be proactive at removing blockers.
