3. Key Responsibilities:
3.1 Clinical
1. To offer rapid screening and assessment, informed by knowledge of the spectrum of mental health needs and risk factors.
2. To make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department's referral protocols, refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or step up the person's treatment to high intensity
psychological therapy.
3. To manage waiting-lists and capacity within the low intensity service through co-ordination of groups and other interventions across Brent
4. To identify and oversee the development of best practice within the low intensity service, leading, co-coordinating resources and protocols within the service, including working with the Clinical lead and deputy Leads to identify and manage service gaps or obstacles
5. To work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
6. Provide assessment and Low intensity interventions eg psycho-educational interventions, Guided Self Help, computerised CBT and group based CBT treatments to patients registered with GP practices/health centres and or resident in the borough of Brent, drawing from CBT theories and techniques.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Must have a qualification from PWP Training Course from a BABCP accredited provider (Post Graduate Certificate or Level 3 undergraduate course)

Desirable criteria

  • Additional training in CBT including supervision
  • A qualification of substantial experience in Professional Supervision

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Substantial experience of working as a PWP with people in mental health problems in a primary care setting
  • Ability to demonstrate a range of post-qualifying experiences in offering and delivering the range of evidence-based IAPT low intensity interventions such as computerised CBT and guided self help and group psycho-education.
  • Experience of delivering training to a range of professionals
  • Experience of working with clients who present with risk issues and of risk management.
  • Knowledge of NHS Talking Therapies KPIs and performance indicators.
  • Experience of group based interventions.
  • Consolidated and reflective supervised post-qualifying experience, preferably in NHS or Social Services setting
  • Experience of working within the IAPT culture and knowledge of IAPT targets and performance indicators
  • Substantial experience of multi-disciplinary teamwork

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of working within a service development role and the ability to co-ordinate across the service.
  • Previous line management experience
  • Experience of and ability to provide mentor/supervisor role
  • Experience in drug/alcohol management
  • Experience of supervising others within a therapy setting of helping profession such as social work nursing
  • Experience of working in a Primary Care Mental Health setting
  • Experience of audit and research
  • Experience of screening, assessing and working with a wide spectrum of mental health issues and working with people with moderate common mental health problems
  • Experience of co-working with general nurses and health visitors in a Primary Care setting

  • The capacity to adapt core psychological approaches to the primary care culture, incorporating a range of skills to meet a broad spectrum of presenting issues

  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to carry out a range of evaluation and monitoring techniques
  • Fluency in a community language other than English
  • Able to work through interpreters

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of different models of mental health/mental illness
  • Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of working with diversity and knowledge of working with black, minority ethnic groups
  • Evidence-based practice/clinical governance
  • Models of assessment, screening, referral, record keeping and evidence-based brief psychological intervention
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and their use for clinical and audit purposes
  • Knowledge of Child Protection and safeguarding legislation

Desirable criteria

  • An awareness of serious mental health presentations (psychosis, bi-polar)
  • Evidence of further training in psychological interventions/therapy

Other

Essential criteria

  • An understanding of the context of IAPT stepped care
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time

Desirable criteria

  • Fluent in languages other than English
