Job description

We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community wishing to join a workforce which embraces difference and welcomes everyone.
Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? Then the Environment Agency is the organisation for you! We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share.
Working across the geography of the River Thames Estuary, this role supports delivery of the multi-year programme of asset management works under the Thames Estuary 2100 strategy.

These are two senior roles in Programme & Contract Management (PCM) within our integrated project team for the Thames Estuary. There are various workstreams under these roles, ranging from programme review, business case and transition workstreams, or delivery of construction projects directly contributing to flood defence resilience. You will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders from project inception strategic planning through to leading and delivering the packages of work. You'll mentor and coach project team members, identifying and securing resources, external input and assurance.

You will build a great working environment with high performing teams including our suppliers, client representatives, technical specialists, and other partners. Applying your effective relationship development skills and facilitating collaborative and efficient ways of working, you will make key project decisions informed by leadership direction whilst following governance procedures and project assurance requirements.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

Our London and Thames Estuary team is a supportive environment with a clear sense of purpose. You'll work with delivery partners and our national Project and Contract Management team (PCM) creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. Our strong works together collaboratively, recognising the value each team member contributes. Depending on your skills or preferences you could work to review programme performance and lessons learned or deliver high priority construction projects.

Experience/skills required
• A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Be able to demonstrate an exceptional track record in delivering complex projects in a high risk/pressured environment.
• Experience in either business case development, reviews, change management or delivery of operational construction projects
• A member of one of the following: Institution of Civil Engineers; Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management; Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; Institute of Asset Management; or Association of Project Managers or be committed to achieving this.
• A natural ability to bring big-picture thinking that improves the methods, behaviours and processes with the people you work with.

Our flexible working supports a healthy work/life balance and offers numerous choices to accommodate the demands that personal commitments may present.
