Job Description

The Logistics and Planning Lead will play a critical role in the delivery of a major Defence infrastructure programme, overseeing the strategic planning and execution of logistics operations across secure and sensitive construction sites. This role ensures that all materials, personnel, and equipment are coordinated efficiently and in compliance with Defence protocols, enabling timely and secure project delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with MOD stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to maintain operational integrity and programme alignment.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

The primary purpose of the Logistics and Planning Lead is to ensure the secure, efficient, and coordinated delivery of all logistics and planning activities across a large-scale Defence infrastructure programme. This includes:

  • Strategically managing the movement of materials, equipment, and personnel within and around sensitive Defence sites.
  • Developing and maintaining integrated construction schedules that align with programme milestones and MOD requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with Defence regulations and security protocols, particularly in relation to site access, asset handling, and contractor coordination.
  • Mitigating risks and resolving logistical challenges to maintain programme momentum and operational integrity.

SCOPE

The Logistics and Planning Lead acts as the central interface between project teams, contractors, suppliers, and MOD stakeholders, ensuring that logistics and planning activities support the programmes objectives of security, efficiency, and timely delivery. The role demands a high level of strategic oversight, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in environments governed by strict security and operational standards

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Logistics and Planning, to include:

  • Develop and implement a secure logistics strategy tailored to Defence site requirements, including off-siting, controlled access, delivery protocols, and asset tracking.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with MOD standards and timely delivery of materials.
  • Manage on-site logistics operations, including vehicle movements, storage zones, and restricted areas.
  • Ensure logistics operations adhere to Defence Infrastructure Organization (DIO) and JSP regulations.
  • Liaise with MOD, DIO, and other Defence stakeholders to ensure logistics plans meet operational and security requirements.
  • Coordinate with multiple contractors and disciplines to avoid conflicts and ensure secure, efficient site operations.
  • Support procurement teams in planning material requirements and delivery timelines, including classified equipment.
  • Preparing formal project progress and other reports
  • Taking a leading role in interfacing with the client, other consultants, and managing stakeholders at all project stages.
  • Contribute to team KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified (Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Logistics or related field)
  • Experience working within MOD or Defence sector environments.
  • MOD SC required, sole UK National
  • Preferred if chartered/qualified with ICE, APM, RICS etc
