ABOUT US

Simbec-Orion is a responsive and agile full-service CRO, with wide therapeutic experience and specialist expertise in clinical pharmacology, oncology and rare diseases. Perfectly structured, we provide full-service clinical development solutions for small and mid-size drug developers - headed up by a centralised leadership team.

With a focus on tailormade and scalable solutions, we'll adapt our delivery style, communications and operations to suit the demands of the project, helping clients achieve their clinical and commercial objectives. Because our goal is the same as theirs; to improve patients' lives.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Project Financial Analyst to join our Group Finance team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will be part of the Financial Planning and Analysis function within Group Finance. The Senior Project Financial Analyst will work closely with operational teams to provide insight into the financial performance of projects and departments, and to drive improvements in margin and cash flow. Collaborating with the ERP Data Manager, the Senior Project Financial Analyst will analyze data from multiple sources to produce timely and relevant outputs for reviewing the financial performance of individual projects and broader department portfolios. This role is a business partnering position that requires the ability to present complex financial data in a user-friendly format that non-finance team members can understand.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Build a Project Financial Analysis function within the business, which supports Project Managers in effectively managing the financial performance of all projects.
  • Develop effective processes for identifying hours overburn and challenge/address with departments to avoid/minimise diminution of project profitability.
  • Help promptly identify potential out-of-scope work being completed outside of contract to address risk to revenue and shape Group-wide behaviour that can negatively impact Financial performance.
  • Analyse hours spent at a task level to encourage corrective actions where there are significant gaps in time spent versus Budget on Projects.
  • Work with the Commercial team to understand the pricing model, which forms the basis for the study budget, and create a process for continuous review of cost rates to ensure areas of margin challenge are identified.
  • Prepare the key inputs and outputs for the annual budget, including full Profit and Loss accounts for each department and an integrated Profit and loss account, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statement for the Group.
  • Prepare the key inputs and outputs for the quarterly forecast, including full Profit and Loss accounts for each department and an integrated Profit and loss account, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statement for the Group.
  • Lead monthly Finance reviews with department Heads and Project Leads, during which financial and operational metrics are presented and discussed to develop an understanding of operational challenges and their impact on financial performance.
  • Work with the ERP Data Manager to develop a set of metrics and targets that provide insight into operational efficiencies and inefficiencies, Project margin performance, and other areas that drive the group's performance.
  • Prepare financial and operational data as a cohesive review of Project, Departmental and Group performance for monthly reporting
  • Manage and develop the model for capturing revenue-generating capacity.
  • Work with Finance and the wider business to identify opportunities to automate and systemise current manual reporting, enabling more timely information availability.
  • Work with Finance and business operations to implement the Project module of Microsoft Dynamics.

SKILLS REQUIRED

ESSENTIAL

  • Previous Finance business partnering experience
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills
  • Advanced Excel skills - adept at manipulating large amounts of data, applying an array of formulae and strong reporting/formatting skills
  • Experience in implementing process improvements or change management
  • Experience in delivering presentations and/or training to groups outside of finance
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt to different audiences

DESIRABLE

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
