The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) is a vibrant faculty with a long tradition of world-leading research and teaching in physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science and engineering. We deliver a wide-ranging portfolio of undergraduate and masters degrees, to around 4,500 students.
About the role
We are seeking a motivated, highly organised and people oriented Senior Programmes Manager.
The Senior Programmes Manager is a key role in the faculty, contributing to the development and delivery of faculty educational aims as well as supporting the wider university strategy and vision. It is based in the Faculty Professional Services team within the education function. The role is responsible for enabling staff in our departments to deliver our portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the faculty.
The role works very closely with academic and professional services colleagues in the faculty and its departments, as well as across other faculties and central services, to enhance and improve process and leads on a range of projects across programme management activities in support of student and staff in a period of change. The post holder will also lead the implementation within the faculty of strategic projects relating to the Student Futures workstreams.
The role is responsible for:
- The effective delivery of programme administration and education support for all programmes in the faculty, ensuring a consistent, high level of professionalism, and alignment with university and faculty strategies and priorities.
- Leadership of the programme administration staff in the faculty, developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior stakeholders, networks and external partners.
- Monitoring and supporting delivery of high quality customer service through continual review and monitoring of adherence to indicators of service delivery.
- Anticipating and addressing service delivery issues, ensuring resources are fully utilised at times of peak demand and escalating when additional resource is needed
- Representing the faculty in wider university activities and committees, in support of the faculty's interests and engaging with university functions.
Successful candidates will have a proactive approach to leadership with strong experience of line management and creating high performing motivated teams. They will have a good understanding of programme administration in Higher Education, a commitment to continuous improvement and excellent communication skills.
This is currently a hybrid role, and the role holder will spend at least two days of their working week on campus and part of the week working remotely.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 29 May 2026.
This post is for a maternity cover and can be offered as an internal secondment opportunity subject to agreement.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Substantial administrative experience gained within an HE environment, preferably with a focus on taught programme delivery.
2. Experience of developing innovative solutions and practical implementation for strategic change.
3. Experience of managing projects and managing change.
4. Experience of translating complex regulations, processes and information in suitable formats for a variety of audiences.
5. Proactive and authentic approach to leadership, strong experience of line management and creating high performing teams, including motivating staff, performance management and maintaining a positive, proactive culture of continual review and development.
6. Strong interpersonal skills including building networks, and influencing and negotiating with stakeholders across organisational boundaries to deliver a timely positive outcome diplomatically.
7. Proven ability to use initiative, prioritise workloads and respond positively to situations arising at short notice in a busy environment.
8. Advanced IT skills with particular reference to database use, reporting and the Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
