Location: Birmingham

Base salary: £54878 pa to £64562 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

The Senior Programme Manager role provides professional project and programme management leadership for the delivery of the transformational Cost Assurance strategy across the HS2 Programme. The role is responsible for managing Cost Assurance activities using best practice project management and project controls methods, including planning, tracking, reporting and risk management to drive successful and timely outcomes. This role will influence the delivery of the Cost Assurance strategy which will have a direct impact on HS2's ability to better manage and assure the use of taxpayers' money.

About the role:

  • To own and manage the Cost Assurance programme of activity incl. scheduling, tracking, reporting, RAID management, and benefits management.
  • Responsible for producing regular progress reports for all Cost Assurance workstreams in conjunction with workstream leads.
  • Responsible for leading and driving scheduling activities of the team to ensure that activities are well planned, resourced and align with strategic goals.
  • Responsible for developing and measuring Cost Assurance capability against maturity criteria.
  • Responsible for leading and coordinating comms from the team to the rest of the business and into the supply-chain.
  • Responsible for leading risk management to ensure Cost Assurance activity is adequately addressing threats/opportunities and proactively identifying new risks.

About you:

  • Ability to develop, plan and integrate projects across multiple functions/teams to optimise costs and project benefits.
  • Understanding of the project/programme management knowledge aligned to the level of APM Project Manager (advanced)
  • Experience of the entire project lifecycle including planning, procuring, developing and implementing project activities.
  • Ability to identifying the necessary information, managing the gathering and synthesising of that information, facilitating the identification of options and the application of judgement based on logic and reason
