If so, this is an exciting opportunity for you to lead a team of Designers and Programme and Project Managers to work in collaboration within a major water company with operations, bio-resources and asset planning teams.
What you'll do
As an experienced Programme Manager, you will be responsible for taking complete ownership of programme delivery and leading the 'Engineering a Better Future' vision for a more 'Industrialised Approach to Engineering'.
You will be responsible for ensuring the team delivers a portfolio of bio-resources projects using an approach that achieves optimum efficiency using either, or a combination of, internal and external design, civil, mechanical and electrical resources.
You will be managing a programme of works entailing a total expenditure of over £250 million over a five-year period, comprising projects with values ranging from less than £1 million to more than £50 million.
Your roles and responsibilities will include:
- taking full responsibility for the overall direction of project management teams
- demonstrating a driven and entrepreneurial approach with first-hand experience in the fine detail of any scheme while ensuring the project itself has been 'value engineered' through the design phase
- leading, motivating, inspiring and empowering the team day to day, ensuring they spot opportunities, see beyond challenges and deliver to the highest possible standards
- owning the resource management process for the team
- ensuring all legal, project control, delivery, health and safety, environmental, financial and procurement processes are fully embedded, and adhered to, through all stages of project delivery
- innovating, thinking laterally and tackling new areas of business risk and opportunity
- identifying and managing critical business issues
- ensuring appropriate construction processes are followed and corresponding procedures are set up to meet the safety, quality and environmental licence requirements
- ensuring that necessary resources are available to meet the construction strategy and objectives
- regularly reviewing the performance of other external projects and other sources of best practice to maximise opportunity for implementing lessons learned on projects
- facilitating effective team interaction to avoid silo working practices
- applying corporate policy and standards to site construction activities
- monitoring performance against the policies and standards as appropriate
- feeding back on performance into the company's measures
- reporting on incidents and other operational issues through to the compliance teams and senior management.
What you'll need
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- A chartered member of the ICE or equivalent professional body is preferable.
- Extensive proven experience at a management level.
- Significant experience leading large construction (capital) projects to successful delivery against time, cost and quality specification, ideally in a regulated environment.
- Experience managing a substantial programme of multi-disciplinary projects through the design, construction and commissioning stages, preferably in the water industry or other utility industries.
- Strong commercial knowledge of complex projects with a knowledge of UK construction legislation and relevant contractual expertise.
- Experience planning and following budgetary processes for a project of this size.
- Knowledge of health and safety and CDM regulations.
- Demonstrable ability to lead and develop project delivery teams.
- A proven commitment to see the job through.
- Planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to influence effectively at all levels of the company.
- Leadership skills showing strong relationship-building, influencing and people management skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience as the client managing large contracts and contractors, from both a technical and relationship perspective, including the associated industrial relations environment.
- Experience holding a senior leadership position in an organisation, creating a culture that supports safety excellence and project objectives and values.
- The ability to gain a full understanding of the legislative and regulatory requirements relating to construction.
