Job Description
Sherwin Williams Consumer Brand Group (CBG) is home to two of the most famous brands in the DIY. Ronseal, one of the most established and loved brands in the UK and bold challenger brand Valspar, as well as our extensive trade brands portfolio including Thompsons waterseal and Geocel.
As The Senior Product Manager (SPM) you will be responsible for effective lifecycle management of the portfolio of these products by brand, channel or product category. Delivering a successful new product development program, managing portfolio reviews, product improvement initiatives & margin enhancement and simplification projects.
The Senior Product Manager will have the opportunity to build the product strategy for their brand and have full ownership of the innovation roadmap. With significant cross functional support, including an exceptionally talented R&D team, this role involves a high amount of ownership, commercial exposure and significant opportunities to shape the way we do things. The SPM is responsible for the future product roadmap and aligning the business to that direction and the 'go to' person for their products, known throughout the business as 'the expert'.
Responsibilities
Product Portfolio Management
- Manage the product life cycle including ongoing sku rationalization
- Creation and management of the New Product Development (NPD) Pipeline
- Manage NPD projects from concept to launch, delivering innovative products that increase market share and profitability.
- Product P&L responsibility
- Utilise Navigator consistently to demonstrate process leadership to others
Product Plans
- Develop product plans using a strong understanding of consumers and customers to ensure success when presenting business opportunities
- Work closely with all departments to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of plans
- Support sales teams by presenting product related strategies and plans to key customers
Insights
- Develop expert knowledge of the markets, categories and products - be the 'go to' authority
- Closely monitor competitor ranges, strategy, pricing architecture and strengths and weaknesses
- Develop knowledge of the end users (trade and consumer) alongside the brand comms team
Packaging and Quality
- Ensure products are of an appropriate quality and performance level to meet end user needs
- Ensure packaging enhances the brand and is fit for purpose
- Reacts to quality related initiatives and puts appropriate plans into action.
- Liaise with Consumer Service teams on product quality issues and work closely with R&D teams to resolve
- Create and maintain product labels ensuring regulatory and legal compliance
Budget and Cost Control
- Implement best practice with our suppliers / marketing team
- Effective management of product/brand specific budget
- Ensure processes are in place for product cost control
Training, Product Information and Shows
- Assist with product training both internally and externally
- Product information sign off for all content where products are featured
- Give product guidance to the Brand and Channel teams as needed
- Supply product information for online i.e. websites, academy, STIBO/STEP, SW mall.
Qualifications
We are ideally looking for...
- BA Hons Degree preferably in Marketing
- Product marketing experience
- Experience of managing and developing a marketing team
- Ability to lead projects and take internal customers with you i.e. effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritise multiple projects and demanding deadlines
- Ability to quickly adapt and optimise the use of new technology and systems
- Experience of working in the DIY Sector and paint / woodcare an advantage
- Initiate and take insights from market analysis/research
- Must hold a UK driving licence as required for the role
