Senior Product Manager

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Hi there We're Stotles.

Our mission is to unlock the potential of business and government working better, together. We'd love for you to join us on our journey.

The partnership between business and government is vital in making our communities productive & cohesive, but inefficiency and bureaucracy is currently the norm. We are using a modern approach to change this.

Our SaaS platform gives businesses a clear view of opportunities to work with the public sector, and the tools needed to manage them. We are bringing together a massive amount of messy government data to bring clarity and transparency to a space that desperately needs it.

We've seen fantastic traction from hundreds of customers such as Salesforce, Vodafone, Snowflake and Appian, driving our best-in-class growth trajectory

Working at Stotles
About this role

We are hiring our first dedicated product manager! This role presents a unique opportunity to join a well capitalised product team at the "ground floor".

Our current product is best-in-breed in our market, but in the grand scheme of things, we are still "young". We have a huge number of untapped opportunities that will allow us to set the bar 10x higher.

In this role, you will take ownership of the current product suite and realise these opportunities to scale it from "1 to 1000". You will be working closely with the whole product team, including Carsten (co-founder & CPO), Piotr (CTO), and Phil (Lead Designer) to make this a reality.

As a company, we are also expanding our service offering via a new "0 to 1" product (see preview here). Much of Carsten's PM capacity will be occupied by this, which will leave significant latitude and responsibility for you to define and realise the direction of the current product suite.

On the spectrum of pioneers, settlers, & town planners, this role is somewhere in the range of "late pioneer" to "early settler".

The "first PM" role only arises once in a company's lifespan, so we are excited to find a dynamic, resilient, and very sharp PM to tackle the challenges ahead and raise the bar in a product team that is already firing on all cylinders.
What you'll do

  • Partner with the product leadership (CPO, CTO, Lead Designer) in order to set the vision & strategy for our existing product suite
  • Lead open ended discovery & exploration with users to shape future opportunities, and refine our understanding of our users & space
  • Define the measures of success for an opportunity or hypothesis, and work pragmatically & creatively to achieve it
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with our amazing engineers & designers to bring new ideas to life. Bring the context, support, & guidance that will unlock the rest of the team's best work
  • Quantitative & qualitative analyses of usage patterns, data quality, sentiment, understanding, etc. to track our progress, understand trends, and set future direction
  • Work closely with the commercial teams to ensure that everything built is presented & delivered to market effectively
  • Be the connective tissue between engineering, design, sales, customer success, & growth to share context, understanding, and progress across teams

What we value

  • Strong experience. Estimating 5+ years of product management experience. You have been a part of shipping products that solve real problems for the people that use it. The closer the experience to data-heavy B2B SaaS products, the better.
  • Obsessed with impact. With every move, you have the end goal in mind. You use creative solutions, effective teaming, brute force, whatever it takes in order to get there.
  • Highly versatile thinking. Able to move from high level strategic thinking to nuanced implementation details. Able to identify and adjust for when a "quick and dirty" or "slow and perfect" approach is needed
  • Strong judgement amongst ambiguity. You don't need all the facts to make a decision. You lean on both data & intuition to make a decision and proceed with conviction. A growth mindset that has a desire to make things better.
  • Effortless communication. You can speak the "language" of each team, and bring those teams together in productive conversations
  • Knack for quality and simplicity. You understand how to "absorb" complexity for users and distil what needs to be exposed to users vs. not
  • Analytical mindset. Our product is data-heavy. Able to wrap your arms around new data quickly to understand it's key features, quality, constraints, etc. Complex relational databases don't scare you.
  • Natural project manager. We work in small squads and lean on senior team members to steer the ship to the most impactful problems and work. Project management is a shared responsibility across engineers, designers, & product managers, but we expect you to set the best-in-class example for the team.

What we offer

Compensation: £70,000 - £95,000 with an additional options equity grant worth 15 - 40% of salary

You at Stotles
Learning + Growth Opportunities

We believe that individual learning and progression is extremely important. Stotles is there to support in you in what energises you.

In addition to a dedicated budget for personal development, here are some of the things you will have the opportunity to dive into:

  • Leading a product through a huge transition - Navigating the journey from "PMF by any means necessary" to "a scaled and optimised market leader" will be a wild ride, you will be in the cockpit.
  • AI & LLMs - These are playing a key role in how we surface insights for our customers and we are learning everyday. Collaborate with our keen engineers and figure out what is possible in this new world.
  • PLG excellence - Part of our scaling journey will be a hybrid PLG / Sales go-to-market approach. This will require a huge amount of experimentation, ideation, and creative thinking. Become the guru!
  • Future 0 → 1 opportunities - As we grow as a company, opportunities to launch new products & markets will emerge. Back to basics!

Progression

Working at Stotles will provide many opportunities to grow and as an early employee you can "choose your own adventure".

Some possible paths are:

  • Management track, grow the PM function from 1 to n!
  • Double down on being the ultimate IC, the go to resource for the most important, complex, and ground-breaking projects.

Typical week of a Product Manager @ Stotles

ℹ As a product team, we organise our work in 8 week cycles, inspired by (but not a direct copy of) the shape-up methodology.

Well, you are the first dedicated PM, so defining this will be up to you! But taking inspiration from the rest of the product team, it might look something like:

  • Monday catchup - most of our communication is asynchronous (including our daily stand-up), but we like to make sure we see each other at least once a week.
  • Tuesdays - Usually a focus day, keep free of recurring meetings and get heads down into the details. Great day for the office if you fancy a free lunch on Stotles!
  • Wednesdays - highest probability of meeting the product team in the office as we all aim to get in a collaborate. We also do our project check-ins on Wednesday. An opportunity to talk progress and challenges with leadership. Also the highest probability of the product team meeting up after work to relax
  • Thursdays - Another more focused day, avoid recurring meetings and get to spend time deep in the weeds.
  • Fridays - Wrap up the week, we have a company sync with any big updates from the founders and a rotating cast from the company sharing what they are working on.
  • Physical & mental wellbeing - whether it's going to the gym, meditating, or anything else you might spend your wellbeing allowance on!
  • Knowledge sharing sessions during our engineering forum - learn new tech or product-related skills.
  • Food, drink & snacks - join us for lunch together, topping up the snack supply or drinks after work - we like to explore what the area has to offer or if we're lazy just hang out on the rooftop.
