The Role
Our Product Design Team are solve problems to elevate the user experience of our mobile and web apps to be the benchmark for HealthTech products, which others aim to emulate. You will be working closely with all squads, utilising best practices for user research, ideation, design and testing to deliver. As a Senior Product Designer you must be an adaptable self-starter, who can lead on projects and initiatives from brief to delivery. You'll also embed design strategies and provide peer-to-peer technical design leadership within the Product Team.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Providing subtle leadership and guidance and mentorship to others, helping to define product strategies and solutions, embedding good practices, and sharing new ideas with the wider Product Team.
- Be a leader in agile processes by demonstrating ideal standards in gathering requirements, managing an agile backlog, writing user stories, and leading squad refinement sessions.
- Ability to lead from within a technical squad, across multiple cross-functional stakeholders, without authority.
Design
- Approaching the UX of our products with a holistic mindset, ensuring practicality and accessibility best practices are followed.
- Adopting multiple approaches to problem solving, whilst not unnecessarily redesigning the wheel.
- Prototyping to validate concepts and testing usability of chosen directions.
- Approaching design with the correct level of fidelity for the task.
User Research
- Planning, facilitating and reporting on user research studies to uncover incremental improvement opportunities.
- Running continuous usability testing sessions to identify friction points in our mobile app experiences.
- Collaborating with the wider Technology teams to recommend improvement ideas synthesised from research and testing.
- Establishing and defining user mental models.
Data & insights
- Analysing data, analytics and user insights to make informed UX and research recommendations.
- Defining, building and tracking analytics dashboards to identify UX issues to investigate with further User research and usability testing.
Collaboration
- Articulating ideas to Product Managers and the wider team and business, utilising user feedback and data where required.
- Working with others to knowledge-share and objectively critique designs from other squads.
- Supporting the wider Product Team with discovery activities to constantly evolve your understanding of our users.
- Working with the Engineering team regularly to bring diverse opinions to the workflows, checking feasibility, and ensuring your vision is accurately brought to life in code.
- Work collaboratively with Revenue teams to support sales efforts.
Research & Innovation
- Keep up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practice.
- Evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in Product Design, with a strong background in both UX and UI, and a focus on mobile apps and within SaaS products.
- Strategic thinker, who sees both the big picture and the smaller underlying mechanics.
- Extensive design system knowledge.
- Ability to define and articulate business or user problems in simple terms to various stakeholders, and explore solutions that contain the right balance of simplicity, flexibility and impact
- Strong user interface and interaction design skills, but have a broad skill set across product design, including research, testing and prototyping.
- Ability to draw out project assumptions and plan research activities to either confirm or invalidate.
- Ability to plan and facilitate usability tests to validate design direction and remove biases from your work.
- Eagerness to work with multiple people and be a self-starter.
- Prideful in attention to detail.
- Tech savvy and adaptable to new technologies and systems.
- Ability and passion to work in a fast-paced scale-up team environment, embracing its challenges and opportunities.
Nice to Have
- Advanced prototyping skills.
- Experience with data and analytics.
- Knowledge and experience in accessibility (WCAG, Heuristics, designing for impairments etc).
- Experience in a tech start-up/scale-up.
- Experience or knowledge of the NHS, healthcare, or healthtech industry.
- Experience or knowledge of workforce applications.
- Qualifications in a related field i.e., Computer Science or Product Design (examples).
