Job overview

This is an exciting new opportunity to work within the Pharmacy team at CEM Berwyn. This unique setting encumbers elements of Primary Care, Hospital and Community pharmacy, while the addition of a further Senior Prison Pharmacist to the CEM Berwyn team will provide you with the opportunity to develop a truly excellent, person-centred care pharmacist service to the patients at CEM Berwyn.

As Senior Prison Pharmacist your role will be to work within the Pharmacy team whilst working with a multi-disciplinary team, including working very closely with the GPs and Psychiatrists to ensure safe and effective prescribing. The role will entail working with patients with long term conditions, mental health problems and substance misuse problems.

This is a challenging but rewarding role for an individual who is an excellent communicator, confident and able to exercise strong leadership and management skills to deliver a pharmacy service across Primary Care, Integrated Substance Misuse & Mental Health Services. You will also be required to work closely with colleagues in the wider BCUHB services in order to support secondary care needs for patients, such as Cardiology, Hepatology, Sexual Health and Oncology.

Independent prescribing is a desirable but not an essential pre-requisite for this role. However, the successful applicant will be encouraged to provide a prescribing clinic and/or be willing to undertake the independent prescribing qualification.

Main duties of the job

Provide a safe and effective specialist pharmacy service to prisoners at HMP Berwyn.

Undertake professional and clinical pharmacist's duties in the prison pharmacy dispensary as per rota.

Provides expert pharmaceutical advice and support within both primary and secondary care services as required.

Develop, encourage and promote evidence-based, cost effective use of medicines.

To be involved in the training of diploma, pre-registration and other pharmacists within the HMP Berwyn's pharmacy.

Assist in providing clinical training and supervision of other pharmacy staff.

To be involved in the development and delivery of practice research

To comply with NMC Code of Conduct and work within HMP Berwyn and BCUHB's identified policies, protocols and guidelines and comply with the security requirements at all times.

Work in partnership with service users, other health and social care colleagues and services internal and external to HMP Berwyn, including the National Offender Management Service staff as appropriate, to achieve the optimum health outcome for service users and contributing to reducing reoffending pathways.

Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • MPharm degree or equivalent
  • Post GradMSc/Diploma Ol-raddedig mewn Fferylliaeth Glinigol neu gyfwerthuate MSc/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society & registration with the Faculty
  • Independent prescriber
