Walsall Council's Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Team invites a Senior Practitioner - AMHP to join its dedicated 24/7 AMHP Hub team. The role entails working shifts, making autonomous decisions, and adopting a person-centred approach to referrals.

The AMHP Hub team is made up of 6 full time AMHP's who work on the rota, which is supported by community AMHP's working office hours. Here in Walsall, we have adopted a full consideration approach to each referral we receive. We prioritise a comprehensive and thoughtful approach to each referral, under section 13 and we are seeking a qualified AMHP to join us in this important work. You will need to be confident in your AMHP practice and feel comfortable working in a person centred/solution focused way to your work. You will feel passionate about the rights of people.

As a Senior Practitioner - AMHP, you will play a vital role in our 24/7 AMHP Hub. This role offers the flexibility of shift work that consist of long days and nights. You will have the autonomy to make decisions, ensuring the rights and needs of individuals come first. You will help manage the day to to day running of the service, deal with referrals, considerations and if appropriate co-ordinate and complete MHA assessments. There is a need to have a good knowledge base of the Human Rights Act, MHA, its principles and the Code of Practice, along with other legislation that may have an interface with the MHA. You need a flexible approach to your working style and keep up to date with case law and other changes that may affect or enhance your practice. You will assist the AMHP Lead to develop the service.

You will be skilled at making independent decisions that sometimes conflict with the thoughts and decisions of others. You will have excellent listening skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people, families and other professionals.

Along with this, you will:

  • be qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) with relevant certifications and a strong understanding of the Mental Health Act.
  • hold a professional qualification such as Social Worker, Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist.

Responsibilities

  • To support the Team Manager in proactively seeking opportunities to further develop and maintain strong multi-agency relationships.
  • To manage the day to day running of the AMHP service.
  • Lone working.
  • To contribute to forums to reflect upon practice, develop best practice and contribute to local practice and policy developments.
  • Set the standard for Social Work practice and approaches to assessment, problem solving, levels of intervention and service provision by leading and developing the behaviours of team members; Engender a 'can do' approach that is focussed on continuous professional improvement and is measured by improved outcomes for service users.
  • To provide practice placement opportunities and professional mentorships for trainee AMHPs and students
  • To deliver a system of high quality consistent reflective supervision to drive up quality standards.
  • To promote a culture of learning and evidence informed practice.
  • To incorporate policies relating to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice into every day working practice and to challenge discrimination and prejudice wherever it occurs.
  • To encourage a work environment which promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others.
  • Manage the work coming into the AMHP service on a daily basis taking into account risk and protective factors required.
  • To work alongside team members to ensure needs are met and risks are managed on individual cases to achieve best outcomes for individual service users within the context of least restrictive principles and achieving best value and effective use of resources
  • To work with the Team Manger to ensure high quality Social Work and the effective performance of the team to provide better outcomes for adults, their families and carers, and the achievement of national and local targets and objectives.
  • To support in ensuring quality assurance systems are implemented; including audit arrangements to ensure the continuous improvement of both performance and practice.
  • Contribute to the development of best practice across the team and wider Adult Social Care service.
  • Ensure any reports are completed on time and written work presents information which is structured, clear, evidence based, and logical; in accordance with standards.
  • To be accountable for own progression in development through maintaining up to date knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development and research, by maintaining appropriate practice to allow for continued accreditation in relation to the Post Qualifying Award.
  • Perform duties in line with the SWE Code of Practice and ensure others practice in accordance with the code.
