Senior Platform Engineer - Cloud Foundations

Location: London / Hybrid (2 days a week in the office)

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

The role

As a Senior Platform Engineer in our Cloud Foundations team, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing and maintaining our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You'll be responsible for ensuring the scalability, security, and reliability of our cloud environment, enabling Rightmove to deliver innovative solutions efficiently and cost-effectively.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing and implementing scalable and secure cloud infrastructure solutions using GCP services
  • Leading DC to cloud infrastructure migration projects
  • Architecting, implementing and maintaining infrastructure provisioning and automation through Terraform-based IaC toolsets
  • Implementing and managing container orchestration using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Helm
  • Designing and configuring key components of network cloud infrastructure - CDNs, Load Balancers, API gateways and service mesh
  • Optimising cloud resource utilisation and implement cost management strategies
  • Defining cloud and network security policies and ensure compliance
  • Implementing and maintaining monitoring, logging and observability solutions for cloud infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure issues
  • Mentoring junior engineers and contribute to the team's technical growth.

What you'll bring to the role

  • 4-5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, with a strong focus on GCP
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
  • Proficiency in containerisation technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes (GKE)
  • Experience implementing and managing service mesh solutions
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and their implementation in cloud environments
  • Experience with Gitlab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and management
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in Infrastructure
  • Experience implementing and managing secrets management, telemetry and observability tools
  • Drive the implementation of DevOps/SRE process and culture where site reliability and delivery velocity are in harmony
  • Strong understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements
  • Experience with cost optimisation techniques in cloud environments.

Bonus points for

  • Knowledge of Google Pub/Sub and Kafka, and microservices architectures
  • Performance optimisation of Search databases (e.g. Elastic)
  • Familiarity with serverless computing concepts and implementations
  • Experience with infrastructure performance tuning and optimisation
  • Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure requirements and implementations on GCP
