We are looking two recruit two senior planning officers to our Development Management and Planning Policy Team. The primary function of both posts will relate to development management work in relation to minerals and waste planning and the County Council's own development. However, there will also be scope for involvement in planning policy development and NSIP schemes.
About us:
Lancashire County Council is one of the largest local authorities in the UK, covering a substantial urban and rural area in north-west England encompassing 12 district councils.
Lancashire has a significant and diverse minerals and waste industry and its sizable population generates a significant demand for developments required to support the County Council's Services.
About the role:
Both roles would assist in carrying out the County Council's development control responsibilities for mineral extraction and waste management development and also the County Council's own developments such as for schools, transport infrastructure and social care. The role will include the consideration of planning and other consent applications along with the handling of complaints and enforcement of planning control for these types of development. Working with applicants, consultees, elected members and the general public you would have a varied caseload of often complex and controversial developments and will be expected to assess proposals, negotiate and deliver clear and concise recommendations. There will also be opportunities to assist in policy development on the Minerals and Waste Local Plan and the County Council's response to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects
About you:
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning or other environmental discipline and at least three years experience in development management. Knowledge or practical experience of the minerals and waste management industry would be useful but most important is an understanding of a wide range of environmental issues and an ability to analyse complex problems and develop solutions.
Applicants should have a full valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
The role is based at County Hall in Preston; however we embrace flexible working and support a variety of working arrangements to meet the needs of both individuals and the organisation.
We offer a supportive and inclusive environment, where you'll be encouraged to make the most of your talents and interests. We invest in our staff and are eager to support your development by enabling you to undertake training courses, attend conferences and work on a range of diverse and interesting projects.
Excellent benefits include 26 days annual leave entitlement rising to 32 days after five years' continuous local government service, plus 8 public holidays and 2 extra days' leave at Christmas, as well as the ability to buy up to 20 days additional leave per year. We also offer relocation expenses, a staff discount scheme and a generous Local Government pension.
Please ensure you have uploaded and attached your supporting statement to evidence how you meet the Person Specification criteria for the role.
Please note that whilst all points on the person specification are important, those marked with 'E' (Essential) are the key requirements and you should pay particular attention to these essential points and provide evidence of meeting them in relation to the job specification.
