Job Summary
The Senior Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analysing project programmes to ensure timely project delivery. This role involves close collaboration with project managers, Subcontractors, and other stakeholders to integrate programmes, identify risks, and provide strategic planning support. The Senior Planner will leverage advanced planning techniques and software to enhance project timelines and resource allocation.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme Development and Maintenance.
- Develop detailed project programmes, including all phases from initiation to completion.
- Maintain and update project programme based on actual progress and changes in project scope.
- Capture and record as-planned versus as-built information, demonstrate the impact of delay events, and add any new or modified tasks and sequences.

Critical Path Analysis
Identify the critical path and key project milestones. Conduct regular critical path analyses to anticipate potential delays and propose mitigation strategies.
Resource Management
Coordinate with project managers to ensure optimal resource allocation. Monitor resource usage and adjust programme to prevent resource conflicts and over-allocation.
Risk Management
Identify potential programming risks and develop contingency plans. Implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
Reporting and Documentation
Generate regular programme performance reports, programme variance, and progress updates. Maintain comprehensive programme documentation and records.
Stakeholder Communication
Communicate programme updates and changes to all relevant stakeholders. Facilitate programme review meetings and provide clear, actionable direction.
Programme Optimisation
Continuously evaluate and improve programming processes and practices. Implement programme optimisation techniques, such as acceleration and resource levelling when necessary.
Software Proficiency
Apply advanced programming software (Elecosoft Power Project) to develop and manage project programmes. Stay updated with the latest programming tools and technologies.
Training and Guidance
Provide training and guidance to construction managers on programming best practices. Promote a culture of continuous improvement in project programming and time management.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure that all programmes comply with industry standards, company policies, and contractual requirements. Conduct regular audits to verify programme integrity and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Education: degree in Construction Management, Project Management Qualifications, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project programming, with at least 3-5 years in a senior scheduling role.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in programme software predominantly Elecosoft Power Project, and other relevant tools.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of project management principles, critical path method (CPM), and resource levelling techniques.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills. Effective communication and people skills.
- Attributes: Meticulous, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
