Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to join the respiratory physiotherapy team, our friendly department is full of opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic physiotherapist who wishes to develop a range of clinical expertise within the field of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy. We offer a variety of adult rotations across the three specialist sites. Rotations include: critical care - including general ICU, trauma ICU, neuro-surgical ICU and cardiac ICU, respiratory medicine including acute respiratory units and general surgery. We also offer a paediatric rotation at the St. Mary's site with the opportunity to work on both the acute wards and PICU, as well 2 rotations into the community respiratory physiotherapy team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic physiotherapist, with a keen interest in the field of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy, a wide range of clinical experience, good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering excellent patient centred care. You will have the opportunity to develop your specialist skills and knowledge in the areas of respiratory physiotherapy including NIV, ventilator and tracheostomy weaning and rehabilitation within the critical care, ward and community environments.
You will have excellent support from band 7 and 8a specialist physiotherapists in each rotation and work closely with the well-established multi-disciplinary team. Alongside the clinical case load you will have the responsibilities of supervising junior and student physiotherapists, you will be involved in teaching of more staff and lead sessions on the relevant Trust's tracheostomy and NIV training programme. You will also work closely with the band 7 and 8a physiotherapist to help with the continuous development of the services as we have a passion to ensuring a high class patient centred service. We are also lucky to have a clinical academic respiratory physiotherapist within our team and promote an interest in research throughout all we strive to do.
We offer a comprehensive in-service training and induction programme, enhanced by simulation based on-call training. Internal and external courses are supported, and opportunities for postgraduate study exist. Our established appraisal system facilitates career development and progression.
We are looking to recruit into both substantive and fixed-term contracts.
Main duties of the job
- To provide high quality physiotherapy management to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. To participate in a cross site rotational scheme, providing a high standard of physiotherapy to patients within acute rehabilitation. To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
- The job holder is required to work at weekends as part of their contracted hours of work, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
- The job holder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy.
- State registration with the Health Professions Council.
- Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity.
- Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to speciality
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent substantial and sustained experience in relevant physiotherapy specialities and clinical settings
- Experience of clinical education of staff, students or assistants.
- Experience of supervision of students/ physiotherapy assistants, with development of basic supervision skills.
- Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute hospital
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in the NHS as a qualified physiotherapist
- Previous senior physiotherapist experience in relevant post
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area.
- Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/ experience/circumstances and utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills.
- Competent IT skills.
- Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety and meet the differing needs of the patients
