Person specification

Education

Essential criteria

  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Member of CSP

Desirable criteria

  • Clinical Educator Qualification Leadership qualification Evidence of Post graduate training in Mental Health

Experience

Essential criteria

  • The post holder should have: Relevant clinical experience working as a Physiotherapist. Experience of working within mental health services. The ability to work autonomously and set own priorities in a demanding environment Experience of effective team working Experience of delivering group and individual exercise

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working at a Band 6 level. Experience of evidence based practice Experience of service improvement

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • A broad knowledge of current best practice for Physiotherapy in Mental Health An understanding of a range of Mental Health conditions and their presenting symptoms and behaviour and their management Knowledge of falls prevention strategies Knowledge of team dynamics and the ability to work effectively in the Physiotherapy team and with other disciplines Knowledge of current legislation and national guidelines relating to Health and Social care Knowledge of equality and diversity legislation and anti- discriminatory practice Knowledge of safeguarding legislation for vulnerable adults and children Knowledge of Clinical Governance

Desirable criteria

  • A comprehensive understanding of specialist assessment tools and interventions available for the Physiotherapist to use in the Mental Health setting

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Be able to reflect and critically appraise own performance Have effective written and verbal and non- verbal communication skills, including the ability to process complex and sensitive information Be able to manage own workload and determine priorities and recognise when to delegate using a stepped model approach Be able to plan and coordinate treatment packages for service users with complex needs Be able to analyse professional and ethical issues Be able to work in a varied and demanding environment Be able to participate in training sessions within the service Be able to undertake the PMVA Enhanced Physical Training and annual updates in accordance with Trust Training Needs Analysis and informed by the local environment risk profile

  • Possess an awareness of issues when deputising for more senior staff Possess training and presentation skills Possess supervisory skills
