Our Pharmacy Dispensary Teams, offer a patient-centred dispensing service for our bustling wards and clinics. In this role you will be working alongside some of the best in the field, giving you the opportunity to learn and develop new ways of working!

As an Accuracy Checking accredited Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for the providing a high quality and patient-centered Dispensary service to the wards and departments of ICHT. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Senior Team for Dispensing Services and will be responsible for the smooth running of the Dispensary. You will facilitate the timely supply of inpatient, clinic and discharge medication by coordinating the workflow and maintaining availability of stocked medication.

Ensuring compliance with our internal, Trust and national policies - you will uphold the high standards of the Pharmacy Department in leading by example and motivating colleagues to preserve our dynamic and reactive Dispensary services.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high quality, patient focused dispensing service to the wards and departments of the Trust, associated hospitals and the primary care sector.
  • To ensure the timely supply of inpatient, discharge and clinic medication from the inpatient dispensary, including the dispensing and checking of controlled drugs and chemotherapy.
  • To monitor stock levels and maintain good stock management, including investigating and rectifying stock discrepancies.
    To ensure that all staff working in the dispensary are appropriately trained. To ensure all staff have an understanding of the stores and distribution services to enable them to provide a weekend and out of hours service.
  • To provide a high quality patient focused dispensing service to wards and departments of the Trust, Medical School, associated hospitals, community clinics and on-site research centres.
  • To help ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to customer needs.
  • To ensure the quality and accuracy of information held on the pharmacy CMM computer system in relation to stock management
  • To help audit the service against set standards and assist in the review of service provision
  • To support, develop and monitor the progress of all technical staff working in the dispensary (both rotational and static staff)
  • To act as an Educational Assessor/Supervisor for one or more units on the NVQ2 and NVQ3 training programme for pre-registration technicians and pharmacy assistants.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 (or recognised equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Services (or similar)
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Hold an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification (or be willing to work towards completion within 18 months of recruitment)

Desirable criteria

  • A1/NVQ/AVA Assessor (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience working in a UK hospital pharmacy setting
  • An understanding of all aspects and services provided by a UK hospital pharmacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team leader/management experience

Desirable criteria

  • Ward stock top up experience
  • Training/inducting new members of staff in operational processes
  • Collecting data for auditing purposes

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Understanding of the roles and practice of pharmacy staff
  • To adapt, support and implement changes to operations
  • Demonstrates awareness of and commitment to quality customer care
  • Good personal organisation and time management

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in using CMM (previously JAC) pharmacy computer system
  • Knowledge of automated dispensing systems (Omnicell Robot and CD cupboard)
  • Experience dispensing and supplying oral chemotherapy medications using the ARIA computer system

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
