Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) /Current NMC Registration
  • Recognised qualification in palliative care, or working towards
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Demonstrate commitment to and recent evidence of further education and personal development
  • Completion of V300 Non-medical prescribing or willing to undertake within 2 years
  • Completion of Advanced clinical skills

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates significant and recent clinical knowledge in palliative care
  • Recent Post registration experience/include experience of working in palliative setting
  • Evidence of well-developed critical decision making skills which is evidence-based
  • Sound knowledge and participation in research, measuring patient outcomes, audit
  • Evidence of working with a wide range of people at all levels
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of national and local policies and drivers
  • Demonstrate a positive, flexible and adaptable attitude
  • Forward thinking and proactive in decision making
  • Led on audit/project management/service developements
  • Demonstrates leadership in previously roles

Desirable criteria

  • Recent community nursing experience
  • Palliative Care experience in non-cancer related areas

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to assess and monitor a patients holistic needs/ supporting a complex caseload
  • High level of clinical skills relevant to speciality
  • Experience of advance care planning and supporting relatives/carers
  • Ability to deliver advanced communication and advocacy skills
  • Ability to promote a culture of patient-centred care, empathy and empowerment
  • Able to respond flexibly to the changing needs of the service
  • Ability to work autonomously, with initiative, recognising own limitations
  • Experience of working within a pressurised environment
  • Computer literate being able to write and maintain accurate documentation

Desirable criteria

  • Some experience of providing clinical advice, triaging referrals

  • Car driver essential /Use of car and Current clean driving licence
