Do you want to be part of a team using innovative ideas to proactively solve problems? If so, we want to hear from you. APEM Group are looking for a Senior Ornithology Consultant to join our team!
As Senior Ornithology Consultant, you will provide advice to clients on ornithology issues relating to large infrastructure projects, including client liaison, site visits and meeting attendance as required. You'll play a key role in bringing in new projects, identifying follow up work with existing clients or potential new opportunities. As a senior team member, you will also provide mentoring, support, and guidance to more junior members of staff.
You may also have responsibility for managing and / or undertaking the collection of field ornithology data and interpretation of these data for baseline reporting and impact assessments, and carrying out scoping surveys for protected species and / or habitats (Phase 1) as necessary.
Building confidence in your role, you'll look to begin managing ornithology projects in the onshore/intertidal or offshore environments, producing high-quality technical reports including baseline data, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) reports. You'll become a trusted advisor for other disciplines seeking ornithology advice for their projects.
You will have:
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to work well under pressure and to support the team in a focused, thoughtful and composed manner.
- Experience in preparing technical reports and sections of text that contribute to Ecological Appraisals, EIA level and HRA level assessments
- A sound knowledge of ornithology, birding ecology, demography and behaviour.
- Problem solver and innovator.
- Passion for your core-specialisms and the ability to engage with other like-minded specialists and non-specialists (regulators, clients and colleagues).
Knowledge and experience of using GIS and QGIS packages to process and present ornithology data, and/or using the R statistical package to help analyse datasets would be beneficial, but not essential.
