Senior/Principal Vertical Transportation Engineer

London

Are you a designer looking to make a difference to the world around you? Do you want the chance to grow, learn, and be supported by industry leaders? This ever-changing world will be shaped by the buildings put into it; and we know it's often the newest minds who have the brightest ideas.

Vertical Transportation is one of our specialist groups, providing lift, escalator and moving walk expertise to ensure the efficient movement of people in buildings using the best traditional and modern technologies for new, refurbished and occupied premises. As modern buildings and their uses become ever more demanding the design becomes an increasingly challenging process.

Our efficient Vertical Transportation designs provide the ideal solutions for complex projects.

We stick to what we're good at, and encourage all of our people to influence the way things are done. We're large enough to provide stability and opportunity and small enough to recognise our people as individuals; this has led to a culture of flexibility, individualism and organic growth. We have high levels of employee retention because our people like working for us, and many of them are the most skilled and experienced in the industry.

The Role

We look at the building as a whole and are involved in every stage, from initial client discussions right through to construction and even the building's ongoing performance. We collaborate with colleagues, architects and other construction professionals, playing a critical role in every building's design.

As a member of the Vertical Transportation group, your day-to-day tasks will vary, as we'll expose you to all aspects of our work. You will produce detailed designs and drawings, use the latest computer modelling software, carry out traffic simulations, define Vertical Transportation strategies for new or existing building developments to allow efficient transport of occupiers, or research ground-breaking technologies. Communicating will span all of these, as you regularly liaise with project teams, meet clients or end users, and attend collaborative meetings.

What You'll be Doing

  • You will be in a Client-facing role, attending project meetings and disseminating the brief within the project team. You will need to be of personable nature and a good communicator.
  • You will lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.

  • You will be financially astute and work with the team leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered.
  • Looking at new ways of working and taking time out for innovation and research ensuring we keep abreast of our competitors.
  • Creating and maintaining a high reputation within the industry, and ensuring adherence to QM and risk control procedures is also an important part of the role.

About You

  • At least three years previous VT consultancy experience in some or all of the following: VT Design & Specification, Lift Traffic Studies, tender analysis and drawing reviews. (Site survey and commissioning experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement as training can be provided).
  • Technical knowledge of lifts, escalators and moving walks and relevant and applicable codes, regulations, design guides etc.
  • Understanding of VT Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
  • Assist on projects, managing your own resources and deadlines.
  • Appreciation of client needs, and able to communicate with architects and other design team members.
  • Autonomous approach with minimal need for supervision.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently.
  • A friendly, ambitious and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations in a non-adversarial manner.
