Job Description
Why Ocado?
Here at Ocado Logistics, it's our mission to provide an outstanding customer experience for our partners, developing ground-breaking technology, opening multiple sites at an accelerating rate and engaging in exciting new business partnerships around the world - changing the way the world shops, for good.
We are the beating heart of our UK business and comprise a network of cutting edge warehouses and offices across the country that ensure that we optimise the experience and use our proprietary technology across the supply chain to deliver an exceptional shopping experience. At the same time delivering bags of possibilities for our employees and a career that will ensure no two days are ever the same.
About the role:
We wouldn't be able to positively impact the way the world shops without our passionate team members - who keep our business running, our vans delivering, our customers' products picked and packed and our proprietary technology operating at optimum levels. Both behind the scenes within the warehouses and across the front end of the customer experience which means we now have an opportunity for a Senior Operations Manager to join the team.
The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for leading and developing all aspects of the customer fulfilment centre (CFC), General Merchandise (GMDC) and Delivery Operations (Spoke) at our Luton and Welwyn Garden City sites, within a highly automated and progressive environment. This role involves cultivating a diverse, open and engaging culture within the business unit teams, while effectively utilising support from subject matter experts. You'll drive the team of 30+ frontline managers and approx 1,000 members of staff across the sites to consistently achieve agreed-upon Key Performance Indicators and deliver outstanding service to customers.
You will:
- Craft and implement the site strategy to deliver against the agreed vision and strategic objectives
- Empower your management team to drive business and people strategy initiatives, shape a world-class employee experience and deliver on key performance metrics aligned with the five-pillar framework
- Appraise and identify training and development needs for all managers, utilising the Performance and Talent framework, providing coaching and mentorship
- Operate within budget to ensure efficiency and fiscal responsibility, leading with a cost conscious mindset that meets the needs of clients, service providers and the broader OL team
- Objectively evaluate and adjust performance metrics to achieve productivity expectations and quality standards, focusing on measuring process capability rather than just production outcomes.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments to ensure the efficient and cohesive planning of site operations.
- Lead internal safety, people, customer, delivery and cost meetings to champion a culture of continuous improvement, high engagement and aspiration in delivering key business objectives.
- Champion the process of continuous improvement by developing business cases for funding and detailing implementation plans to guide your management team in delivering initiatives.
- Manage adherence to Ocado's Health & Safety policies, compliance and legislative requirements at the CFC, GMDC and the Spoke.
About you
- Proven leadership in large-scale warehouse/logistics environments
- A solid understanding of tech systems, data, and automation-especially in warehouse environments
- Data driven with the ability to provide insights and recommendations
- Excellent stakeholder management
- Proficient client relationship managers
- Health & Safety qualified (IOSH or similar)
- Previous experience of leading and developing management teams
- Proven ability to develop a high-performance culture and improve existing ways of working
