Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking, and well-motivated individual to join the management team within the Medicine Service Group. As an operational management lead working in a triumvirate with the Service Manager, Matron, and Clinical Service Leads (CSL) to actively promote a culture of care which reflects Somerset Foundation Trust's values and leadership behaviours. The post holder will: provide operational managerial support to the Respiratory team; ensure delivery of finance and performance targets; guarantee robust governance arrangements are in place and strategic demands on the services are met.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking person with excellent communication and leadership skills. The post holder will be effective in working closely with clinical and non-clinical staff to support and optimise the service by taking a proactive role in continuous service development and improvement. This is a position with county-wide responsibilities and the successful applicant will be expected to evenly split their time each week between Yeovil District Hospital and -Musgrove Park Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Service Manager and clinical teams by providing day to day operational management. You will undertake planned and unplanned work to drive the service forward, lead on cross county engagement, address operational issues as they arise and to support change. The post holder will ensure services are run in line with Trust values, culture, policies, and procedures. Experience of effective working within teams is essential.

  • First degree or equivalent experience
  • Educated to Masters Level or equivalent demonstrable work based knowledge

  • Evidence of continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrable track record of operational/service/project management
  • Demonstrable understanding of waiting list management and capacity planning
  • Demonstrable understanding of the NHS modernisation agenda, the changing commissioning environment and its potential impact within the acute sector
  • High level verbal and written skills
  • High level numerical skills and data analysis
  • High level IT skills
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and summarise financial and other data
  • A proven capacity to balance competing demands to achieve local and Trust objectives
  • Demonstrable ability to manage staff effectively
