Tullow is offering an exciting opportunity within the Treasury, Oil Marketing and Offtake Team. The position is for a Senior Oil Offtake Operator, which is a full-time position based in Chiswick, London, with hybrid working arrangements, with potential location being Ghana.

Job Purpose

To oversee and effectively manage the Oil Offtake function within Tullow. Key responsibilities include coordination of oil loading operations from the TEN and Jubilee fields in Ghana and managing lifting schedules on behalf of the Joint Venture Partners.

Key roles and responsibilities of successful candidate

To oversee and effectively manage the Oil Offtake function as Terminal Operator whilst separately and independently acting for Tullow in their capacity as lifting partner.

The role requires disciplined and clear division between the two roles with the ability to act strictly within the boundaries laid down in the Crude Oil Liftings Agreements (COLA) and to be fully accountable towards partners for actions taken as Terminal Operator.

Key responsibilities include coordination of all offloading operations from the Jubilee and TEN fields in Ghana, generating and managing lifting schedules on behalf of the Joint Venture Partners and managing relationships with Tullow's buyers and term contract partners both on operated and non-operated assets.

Work closely with subsurface and offshore teams and other stakeholders in order to generate and manage lifting schedules and offtake operations from the Jubilee and TEN fields in Ghana. To monitor deviations versus forecast, stocks, vessel ETAs and nominations on a daily basis, and to react promptly in order to advance or defer lifting dates as necessary in order to minimize demurrage and mitigate against tank top exposure.

Work closely with Finance and planning departments to run and optimize forward looking lifting schedules, within parameters of COLA.

To oversee vessel operations including timely nominations, vessel vetting activity, monitoring documentary instructions, and ensuring terminals are provided with clear instructions. To manage allocation of cargo splits in respect of different fields and in line with pooling arrangements. To ensure that Tullow's systems are kept fully updated at all stages.

To monitor loading operations and act as focal point for quality and quantity (Q&Q) disputes, liaising with partners or customers as necessary. To manage and negotiate demurrage and Q&Q claims on behalf of the terminal and to keep accurate and up-to-date records of claims and liabilities.

To have an awareness of freight market through regular contact with shipbrokers and to keep aware of developments which may impact Tullow's activities in Ghana, for example security concerns or vessel availability.

Other responsibilities include:

  • monitoring of Tullow cargo pricing, timely opening of credit instruments and ensuring conformity of documents in line with Letters of Credit
  • chair weekly Jubilee and TEN meetings
  • convene and chair annual and adhoc Shipping Forums with partners
  • allocate and supervise duties across London and Ghana based Offtake team
  • monitor and report performance against KPI's
  • provide budget input for all Offtake activity and services

The position requires on-call duty on a rota basis in order to respond to unplanned events or incidents.

Experience & Education

  • Good level of numeracy and literacy in the English language

Skills

  • In depth knowledge of crude oil shipping operations at onshore and offshore terminals
  • Familiarity with crude oil lifting and sale agreements
  • In depth knowledge of demurrage and quantity/quality claim handling
  • Fundamental knowledge of freight market and chartering processes, including freight calculations (Worldscale / AFRA / freight market)
  • Clear understanding of the underlying principles of oil allocation
  • Strong numerical and spreadsheet skills
