Professional qualification

Essential criteria

  • Degree or diploma in occupational therapy
  • HCPC registration

Desirable criteria

  • Current Fieldwork Educator qualification within 12 months of appointment (APPLE)

Continuing professional development

Essential criteria

  • Current Fieldwork Educator qualification within 12 months of appointment (APPLE)

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of post registration training/learning relevant to mental health

Experience

Essential criteria

  • post registration experience as an with mental health experience

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of advising and supporting junior staff and/or students

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy in mental health
  • Understanding the management of a range of mental health symptoms and behaviour
  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
  • Understanding of team dynamics and awareness of how to be a pro-active team member
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the processing of complex and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage own workload, determine priorities and recognise when to delegate
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
  • Supervisory skills

Desirable criteria

  • Training and presentation skills
  • Awareness of the issues when deputising for more senior staff.
  • Post registration experience in the relevant mental health clinical setting
