Job overview

A full time band 6 position is open in medicine team at St Mary's Hospital.

It is a rotational post. Wards covered in the nine months rotations are: ED, AMU, Liver, Gastro, and Elderly Medicine wards.

You will join a large dynamic and friendly integrated therapy team, and will be working collaboratively with discharge co-ordinators and social workers and other MDT's completing assessments and discharge planning.

You will receive excellent supervision from a band 7 OT and will gain skills and experience in supporting and supervising a band 5 rotational OT and provide clinical education to student OT's on placements.

We are looking for someone with a broad range of clinical experience at band 5 level. It includes carrying out access visits, assessing for wheelchairs and equipment provision, co-ordinating safe and effective discharges and completing referrals to community teams for follow-up.

It is important that the successful applicant is a team player with a positive outlook, enthusiasm and ability to learn and develop new skills.

The post holder may have an opportunity to participate/lead in QI, Audits and Service evaluation. We actively support continuing personal and professional development through an established performance development review (PDR) system, in-service training and courses.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality standard of occupational therapy management to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. To participate in a cross site rotational scheme, providing a high standard of occupational therapy. To perform advanced assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

When providing occupational therapy within this Trust you will be expected to be professional, efficient, effective, with a commitment to evidence based practice and continuous professional Development.

The post holder will be required to participate in the rostered weekend service cover arrangements including, unsocial hours and overtime (specific rota details are held locally within departments). Staff will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
  • State registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity.

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Recent experience in relevant occupational therapy specialities and clinical settings
  • Experience of working as part of an occupational therapy and multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • Involvement with Clinical Governance issues and an understanding of their relation to patient care

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area.
  • Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the specialist area.
  • Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/ experience/circumstances and utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills
  • Able to carry out therapeutic handling, requiring skilful and strenuous physical effort during the working day.
  • To be able to take part in a weekend service depending on specialist post
