Job Advert Location Description

Richmond House is an eight-bedded community locked rehabilitation hospital for women and Lombard House is an nine bedded community Locked rehabilitation service for men.

Both services provide rehabilitation focused treatment to service users with a history of offending/challenging behaviour who have a learning disability (LD) and other conditions including autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs), personality disorders and mental illnesses.

We aim to support our patients in the transition to community placements and further independence.

The specialist LD units are both community based one step away from community placements and linked to the secure hospital framework. The services are an important part and building community participation and assesing risk whilst working within a therpeutic mileu and working with a specilaist clinical team.

Job Advert Role Description

Our Occupational Therapist/Advanced Practitionar role involves working with patients on individualised plans of care, facilitating group sessions and 1:1 sessions to provide occupational engagement and enrichment, and to maintain or develop patient's life skills.

The role also requires:

  • Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy assessments and interventions to individuals and groups.
  • Our client group resides within a forensic learning disability service.

The successful candidate share their time based across the two rehab and recovery services but may at times be required to support other clinicians within our wider therapy department, by undertaking training delivery and assessments at our linked cluster services in Norfolk which provide secure care facilities.

You will be actively encouraged to develop new ideas and innovative interventions that enhance patients' skills development and social inclusion working alongside the MDT and be skilled and confident in the line management/supervision of your occupational therapy assistants based at the respective services.

To be successful as Occupational Therapist, you'll need to be:

  • Reflective and self-aware
  • Sensitive to the particular demands of the setting
  • Able to use supervision effectively
  • Self motivated
  • Keen to learn

You must have a degree in Occupational Therapy and 2 years post-graduate experience.

Be skilled and confident in the line management supervison of junior professionals (Occupational assistants and Teachers) based at the respective services.

Experience within mental health, learning disabilities, secure or forensic settings would be desirable and the successful candidate will have a strong interest in working within the field of secure forensic learning disabilities.
