Marie Curie, in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth, is introducing a new service model aimed at enhancing end-of-life care, with a special focus on identifying patients who are approaching the end of their lives.
This innovative service focuses on four key areas:
- Delivering hands-on care and emotional support to patients and their families in the Emergency Department.
- Proactively identifying and assisting those nearing the end of life within the acute hospital, ensuring timely transfers to their preferred place of care.
- Offering specialised care within Mount Gould Community Hospital..
- Engaging a dedicated team of volunteers to provide companionship and advance care planning.
This is an exciting opportunity to join us as a Senior Nurse where you will play a key role in managing our team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care for our patients. You will have a significant impact on shaping a positive working environment and fostering a culture of professional growth within your team.
In this role, you will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager to oversee a team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. You will be involved in the provision, supervision, and coordination of clinical services, ensuring that care is patient-centered and aligns with clinical priorities.
Using your palliative care expertise, you will be managing a defined caseload and acting as a professional role model to encourage a wide team approach to the proactive identification of those nearing the end of life within the acute hospital, ensuring timely transfers to their preferred place of care provision of patient care.

What we're looking for:
- Registered Nurse on NMC Register
- Experience in palliative/End of Life care
- Be person-centred and compassionate when caring for the person and those important to them
- Experience of informal and formal teaching
- Up to date knowledge of current palliative care issues
- Ability to develop and evaluate care management plans alongside other healthcare professionals that meets the complex needs of the person, and those important to them
- Proven understanding of the barriers and enablers to good communication and how challenges can be overcome
- Understands benefits of working with a patient-centred philosophy of multidisciplinary team working
- Understanding and support of the benefits of clinical supervision and reflective practice
- Flexibility to provide care in the area with the most need
