The Patient Emergency Response and Resuscitation Team (PERRT) at University College Hospital provides a 24/7 service to critically ill and deteriorating patients, alongside delivery of education programmes, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across the Trust.
This nurse-led team is well established and provides a nursing career development pathway through bands 6 to 8.
We are now recruiting for senior nurse / advanced practitioner B8a roles.
These roles are for experienced critical care outreach nurses who have significant education and resuscitation experience, and with excellent leadership skills.
Our staff are supported to develop across all 4 pillars of advanced practice. There is a wide variety of clinical specialities across our sites, with extensive opportunity to learn new skills.As a senior nurse /advanced practitioner you will be expected to take a leadership role during the multidisciplinary management of deteriorating / at risk patients.
We work closely with our academic partners and PERRT senior nurses are honorary lecturers at City St Georges, University of London.
We have an honorary nurse consultant on the team, strengthening our research pillar and supporting clinical academia.
Main duties of the job
PERRT are firmly embedded within the Trust quality and safety team, working alongside the Q&S leads to ensure 'work as done' is reflected in the planning and delivery of safety initiatives.
A senior nurse role on PERRT will afford you many opportunities to continue your professional and personal development in all four ACP pillars: delivering educational programmes, leading cardiac arrests, facilitating debriefs and learning reviews, delivering psychological support to patients and families, practising viva voce with staff in ACP programmes, chairing resuscitation committee meetings, taking PERRT lead on governance meetings, being an honorary lecturer, rolling out Martha's Rule, delivering quality improvement initiatives, supporting research, embedding PSIRF, developing policies that reflect work as done, audit, site management, service development, leading your team, and lots more that won't fit in the advert!

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN, RN or equivalent professional qualification
- Honours degree in relevant subject
- Educated to Masters level, including advanced physical assessment and diagnostic reasoning
- Non medical prescribing or willingness and ability to undertake
- Recognised mentorship/ teaching course.
- Relevant post qualification clinical course in Critical Care
- Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS Provider
- Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS/pILS Instructor
- Involvement in research and /or or QI activity
Desirable criteria
- Resuscitation Council (UK) EPALS or ALSG APLS Provider
- Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS Instructor
- Resuscitation Council (UK) national course director
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of effective senior leadership and management within a critical care outreach service.
- Experience of 'learning from events', PSIRF, understanding of risk management/ governance, investigating incidents and closing the loop.
- Experience of teaching MDT and responding to learners' individual needs.
- Significant Experience of working as a band 6 /7 within a Critical Care Unit with level 3 patients
- Extensive experience in managing deteriorating patients.
- Experience in managing cardiac arrests.
- Experience of auditing
- Experience as a preceptor/facilitator/mentor
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a resuscitation training service

- Flexible approach to work patterns
- Able to respond as a clinical member of emergency response and resuscitation teams whilst attending clinical emergency calls across the Trust
- Able to facilitate the safe moving of equipment for training such as manikins
- Good dexterity to carry out emergency procedures e.g. defibrillation, cannulation within their own scope of practice
- Able to travel to all Trust sites as necessary to deliver 'in person' requirements of the role
- The postholder will need to be passed fit to perform full duties of the post, this will be determined through occupational health with any reasonable aids provided wherever possible.)
