As a band 6 Neonatal Nurse at Salisbury NHS Trust (SFT) you will form part of an established nursing team, you will act as a senior, positive role model for your colleagues, demonstrate clinical competence and effective leadership skills. You will be responsible for coordinating shifts, allocating duties to junior staff members, and ensuring patient safety is prioritised by communicating effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
You will be required to deliver individualised, holistic care to a diverse population, acknowledging the needs of the infant and family. You must be skilled in communication so that you are able to fulfil this requirement effectively. Infants may have urgent critical care needs that require prompt action, you should be confident to respond to these situations and support the team.
Our nurses must promote a positive attitude and motivate staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally, we will support you to achieve this.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.
- They will regularly take charge of the Neonatal Unit or defined area of the practice setting/group of patients and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care by assessing nursing care and health education needs, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for each patient.
- To be designated to act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility for the organisation and management of the Neonatal service.
- To provide support and guidance for the Neonatal service during nights and weekends and communicating with SFT Site teams in the absence of the Senior Nursing Team.
- Use a range of techniques to set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to continually improve standards of care and patient experience.
- To support the development and implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives.
- To teach and act as a facilitator/ mentor /assessor / preceptor to nursing students, junior registered and unregistered staff, volunteers and work experience candidates, as well as participating in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate.

Essential criteria
- NMC registration
- Qualification in Speciality (QIS) Neonatal Course or equivalent
- 2 Years Neonatal experience post QIS attainment
- Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- New Born life support course
- Neonatal Unit leadership experience
- Leadership Training
- Knowledge of FiCare Principals
